64 ounces of water and 60 grams of Protein - Are you kidding?

Recommended Posts

So two days out of hospital I have had a big struggle trying to consume all the Water and Protein required. I'm using GNC Amp powdered prot which has 20 grams per scoop. Looks like I will finish the day at about 40 ounces of water and 50 grams of prot. Is that normal? That is more than yesterday but still below goal.

And I have eaten no broth. I did take liquid vitamins and two meds that had to be put in Jello. I just want to be sure I don't push to hard and cause a leak... but also know I need to stay hydrated and fuel the body.

Help appreciated.

I'm not sure what you're mixing your Protein Powder with, but are you including that liquid in your 64 oz? It is my understanding that we should aim for 64 oz of liquid and Protein Drinks count. It is also my understanding that it is hard to reach the 64 oz in the first few days after surgery, but it gets easier as the swelling in your sleeve goes down.

That would be nice if the liquid in the shakes (mixing with water) counted. And the notion that this will get easier is very encouraging. Thanks!!!

12 days out, I am not able to reach the goals yet and have wretched on all the Protein powders I have tried. I make power milk - 1 cup of 1% milk and 3 Tbsp nonfat powdered milk. I eat greek yogurt with stevia. I use the milk to mix with my cream Soups.< /p>

Fluid goal for the day is 64oz, 32oz from Water. The rest can be protein/broth etc. I am 1 week out and can't get that much in! I would say bring down your water a little and up your Protein and you will be right on track!

My Dr. also wanted 60g of Protein & 64oz. of Water. That was after a week of only water following my surgery. The office also said that it was totally normal to not be able to get everything in. At first I was able to get 2 shakes (46 g of protein) & about 48 oz. of water. Doc said that was fine & to increase as I felt comfortable & not to push the sleeve too much.

I spoke to nurse at my surgeons office and she said no one can get 64oz and 60mg Protein at first, you have to work up to that. Most important is water to stay hydrated, I couldn't even tolerate water for a few days, I was able to get sips of lemon Powerade down. That was dec 6th and today I am 2 weeks post op and doing much better with liquids but can't keep Protein shakes down, I am nauseated thinking about it. Good luck to you.

My inclination is to come up short on the goals and go easy on the sleeve for sure. My surgery was 12/13 and while in the hospital I enjoyed the broth and Jello they served. I did not know about the 60/64 goals and just sipped a little Water during the day. Thanks for your help!!

That makes sense. As for shakes, I grew up drinking them when I would do resistance training. They never tasted good then and still don't. Some are clearly better than others. I look forward to an egg!

I am on day 6 post-op and still cannot hit both goals. I can hit one, or the other, but not both in the same day. There was no way I could even get close to my Water the first few days. They know that people can't meet their goal, I think that's why they load us up on so much IV Fluid, lol! Every day will get easier.

Mine said no more than 45-50 grams of protein.....ever. I'm 5'3" and he said do NOT eat more than 50 g of Protein. This is very different from other recommendations I have heard.

If you have to choose between Protein and Water, choose the Water. It's way way way more important. Very soon it will not be a problem getting both in.

Agreed!!! Hydration is more important than Protein initially. Once I got to the point where I could tolerate more, I was adding unflavored Isopure to hot chocolate and broth....and I pretty much lived on this for the first two weeks.

Hang in there....it absolutely will get easier!!!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
