I have a leak, not the flu!

Hello' date='

Oh man. What a bummer deal that the two stents were a pain in the rear!!! How long did you have them? Did you're leak heal!? Things are feeling better today. :) I see my dr at 8am. Who knows maybe I will be released?? No fever!!! No pain meds! Consuming Water, milk, and Protein shakes. Fingers crossed

Best,

Sannah[/quote']

I had them in a little over four weeks, I was told that anything over that could cause more problems because the tissue could start yo attach itself to the stent and then when it is removed could cause a tear. It did fix the leak and save my life though ! I was out on liquids only for two months after it was taken out since the tissue is still fragile and to prevent the leak from happening again

That is great you have no fever or pain! Very good sign. You'll get through this and be on your way to your goal weight in no time! Stay upbeat! It promotes healing :)

Been there' date=' so I know exactly how you feel, although they refused to put a stint in me. Sending lots of love, (((hugs))) and healing vibes your way. Take care of yourself and feel better real soon. xoxo[/quote']

How long were you hospitalized? So glad to talk to some who has been here. All in all, things work out good for you? No stent? I have two?

My leak opening was small, but a walnut sized bag filled with infection. I have been on three antibiotics for a week and they are surely doing there job.

Thank you for the support. I SO appreciate it!!!

:)

Best,

Sannah

Sannah' date=' I'm so sorry you are going through this but thrilled that you listened to your body and got help immediately. That's the key it seems.

Stints aren't easy. You will have good days and bad days. Keep listening to your body...they move and can cause issues (better than a leak though) so just be as proactive as you've been. The same for a PICC. I got blood clots from mine, which happens. But I also caught it right away...you feel any heat or lumps near it, get your arse back in ASAP. When caught early they're not a big deal.

I wish you the best and a continued road to recovery. Take extremely good care of yourself so those stints don't move, and don't push them. You want to hear in six weeks you are well and they are bye bye <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

Hello Iggy,

I am shocked I had a leak, because I didn't feel like it. But everything has been so smooth!! Thanks for the heads up about the stent and picc line. The picc line was a pain in the rear to be put in place. I would rather not have to have another.

Thank you for the well wishes and encouragement!!! I hope my WBC count goes down so I can go home for the holiday!!!

Best,

Sannah

Hello!!

How long ago was your leak? My stent has rubber that touches my stomach with the mesh facing inward. The surgeon mentioned something about the stent your speaking of. So you did liquid for two months after stent removal? Was this standard? Holy moly!?

I hope today your doing great!! I have moments of regret, but still stick to the reasons I had this procedure. If you had any feelings or regret or remorse did it fade?

Best.

Sannah

I was in the hospital for 17 days total. Originally we started with a CT scan the night I ended in the hospital, then a swallow test the next morning. I was almost 3 weeks out when my leak was detected. By then I was barely able to eat or drink, had abdominal pain, severe left shoulder pain, fever and was passing out. I had a small leak with an absess and air had gotten inside of me, causing severe infection. They immediately put a picc line in, refused me food and drink for 15 of the 17 days I was in the hospital, I was on 1900 calories of TPN for the 15 days and was also given 4 types of antibiotics. I had 3 more swallow tests while there and each revealed that the leak was not healing.

I had my surgery done in Mexico and I live in Canada, so my sleeve surgeon could not do follow up. This being said, the doctors who treated me here were not happy that I had surgery in Mexico and therefore didn't treat me as well as I should have been treated. My sleeve surgeon (Dr. Castaneda...amazing, amazing doctor) kept in touch with me almost daily for well over a month and tried to suggest to the docs here that they should put in a stent. They refused. After my last swallow test revealed that the leak was still there, my docs decided they would do no more for me, took me off TPN, had me eat and drink on my own and 2 days later I was sent home. They told me if my symptoms came back, I should just go back to the hospital and they would admit me again. Otherwise, no need for follow up.

I was very nervous to go home but I'm now 3 months post-op and I haven't had any further issues. Someone special has been watching over me! I've lost over 50 pounds and recently made it to Onederland!! Very happy that it turned out well, although it was rough going for a while. In the beginning I regretted getting sleeved, but now I would do it again! I have a 6 month old baby girl who needs a healthy mommy....and I'm getting healthier each day!

Take care of yourself and if you ever need to chat, please do. You can also follow my journey on my blog at http://fatchickgonewild.blogspot.ca/

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Good Morning Crystal,

Wow wow wow!! Where to start!! I am sorry to hear you received such unfortunate treatments. You surely did not deserve it. **hugs** The treatment you received doesn't seem very ethical and it makes me sad to hear you had to endure all of this.

CONGRATULATIONS on the baby girl!!' So sweet!!! You're absolutely right!! She needs you!! I am a mom too. My daughter is 14 months now. Let me tell you time flies. Woo, I can't believe how fast!!

Congratulations on your success despite the huge complication you endured. I hope to walk in your shoes. I will overcome this, even the hard days and be successful. Thank you for sharing your story and being a light in my life. Feels amazing to have someone to relate with. :)

Happy Christmas! I hope your celebration is filled with laughter and that the best memories are made with that sweet little girl of yours.

Best,

Sannah

Thank you for the kind and encouraging message. I sure appreciate it and it makes me feel good. :) I was so caught off guard by this leak, but all in all surprised by the pain level, it has not been as bad as I would have imagined.

Thank you for the complements and well wishes. I am truly so thankful for them. I feel so good when I read them.

Best,

Sannah

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
