:help: :help: HI EVERYONE

I AM A 29 YEAR OLD FEMALE WHO IS 4 WEEKS POSTOP FROM HAVING THE LAP BAND PUT IN. I WENT TO THE DOCTORS 9 DAYS AFTER FOR A CHECKUP AND WAS DOWN 26LBS. MY STARTING WEIGHT WAS 276 NOW I AM 250, SINCE THAT VISIT I HAVE BEEN WEIGHING THE SAME AT HOME, I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY. MY DAILY food INTAKE IS A Protein Shake FOR Breakfast, A cheese OMLETTE 1EGG 2WHITES FOR lunch, FOR dinner I HEAT UP A WEIGHT WATCHERS DINNER AND HAVE A FEW BITES, THEN BEFORE BED I WILL HAVE ANOTHER Protein shake. IS THIS A BAD DEIT?

ANYWAY TOMORROW I AM GOING FOR MY FIRST FILL AND AM VERY NERVOUS. DOES IT HURT? WHAT DOES THE STUFF THEY MAKE YOU DRINK TASTE LIKE?

ALSO DOES ANYONE HERE DRINK REGULAR coffee, I CANT STAND DECAFFINATED.

PLEASE REPLY I WOULD LOVE TO HERE FROM YOU!:help:

Hello fellow pug lover!

Things do get easier after your fill. You will get full on less food. Are you exercising? I have really had to start exercising harder to see any results. The scale creeps down so slowly!

As for the fill - it's no problem really. Just a "pinch" as my doctor says. And the barium really does not have a taste. It's kinda like milk of magnesium or mylanta just not flavored.

Best of luck!:)

After you get used to the fill you might want to vary your diet some. You don't want to get bored with it. You should be able to eat hard solid Proteins for all your meals. You might want to eliminate that Protein drink at night. Try eating 3-4 oz of Protein for dinner. Most find that eating before bed is not good.

It will take you a few days after your fill before you can tell if it was enough. Go slow, liquids, mushies, and then solids. The goal is to eat solid foods and not rely on liquids to do the job. Hope this helps.

Remember, that when you went for your first visit after surgery, you were just on Full liquid and I am sure the caloric intake was alot less. Now that you are on solids, your body needs to adjust to the change. I think the fill will help.

Puglet,

Let me just say that your weight loss with no fill is really great. You should not even be concerned. It usually comes off really fast at first because you are on liquids. The fill is just nerve racking for the first one but thats only because you dont know what to expect. Just relax, the only thing you will probably feel is the small need that they use to numb the are with, it feels like a bee sting. The stuff you drink has a chalky taste. Mine tasted like thick lemon milk but it was bearable. One last thing, you dont want to drink caffeinated drinks. The caffeine will make you hungrier. Try the Decaf coffee, I switched and got use to.

Puglet.... sounds a bit odd to me that you are getting a fill and your not even on solids yet. How will you know if you can eat real food before your fill? Is this your doc's usual practice?

I am with Drewslou, I don't understand why you are having your first fill before being introduced to solid foods.

Re: decaffeinated coffee....try Nabob Espresso fine grind decaffeinated in the can....it is excellent.....brew it the same as you would any drip coffee...the fact that it was designed as espresso really helps the flavour when processed through a drip coffee maker. I serve it here in my restaurant and the decaffeinated coffee drinkers rave about it.

Sounds like you are eating okay except I would watch the prepackaged prepared foods....even Weight Watchers. Some are high in sodium and the preservatives won't do you any favours either.

hi

I have had losses and plateaus since surgery in July. I think the most important thing to look at when choosing your diet is to keep your carbs low. Weight watchers and Protein shakes are often low cal and low fat, but not always low carb. When I am strict about the low carb thing, I loose, when I am not, I plateau. I have a degree in health and can tell you in my opinion, that 40 carbs or under a day is great!!!!!

Also, I have concerns about you getting a fill before eating solids, how do you know if you need one if you don't know how much solids you can eat?

I am a coffee drinker, and I have one yummy cup a day. I give up 5 of my carbs (out of 40 a day) to add my favorite Creamer. The jury is out on this topic still......................there are other successful banded coffee drinkers out there that I have talked to......... Good luck!

Your diet sounds a little too limited to me. Also, your calories probably don't add up to very much. It is important to eat enough to lose weight (sounds odd I know). If I had to guess I'd say you probably aren't getting over 1000 calories a day...if I want to lose weight then I need around 1200 a day. Any less and my weight seems to plateau. Just an idea.

Um, I know the Protein is pushed at you as very important in the states and that I probably annoy the heck out of everyone with my vehement disapproval of it (which is afterall just my opionion) but I cant keep my mouth shut - where on earth are your fresh fruits and vegetables?

It may not be a high calorie diet but nutrient wise its really really lacking. Its all processed and packaged and not fresh and you're going to feel and look like crap after a while of eating like that - its no recipe for long term health at all.

All those foods are calorie dense too, if not particularly calorie high. With no fill you may still find you need filling up and if you do it on Protein shakes or Protein foods you are going to be taking in many many more calories than if you simply ate an apple (cooked and pureed if necessary at this stage). Omelettes are great but one thing I enjoyed during mushies was a salad of flavoured tuna, peeled chopped Tomato and cucumber, chick peas, and avocado sort of fork mashed together. Or homemade lentil and vegetable Soup. OR steamed veges and pumpkin mashed with some gravy. Lots of colours and flavours and Vitamins and way less energy dense than a plate full of eggs on their own.

I'm no advocate of highly processed carbs having a high priority in our diets but I also think the avoid fruits, vegetables and wholegrains is not necessary and actually bad for you.

I agree with Jacqui, fruit and vegies...I can't imagine a world without them! I love to shop at Trader Joes, they make some great products Nitrate free meats, low carb spinach Frittata, exotic fruits....whole grain and nut breads that are all good carbs....organic milk, etc..

I love my Fiber, and believe my body is digesting and processing what I eat better the more I have. I have 2cc in my band, I was afraid of salad, but it turns out it is very easy for me to chew and swollow well. Even though sometimes I feel like I haven't lost weight fast enough, I have been paying so much attention to what is going in and it's balance, I feel so much better! It is slow, but steadily going down.......

I also will be having my first fill before solids. In fact, my Dr. wants me to remain on Clear Liquids until that time, and he will then tell me what to eat. I was okay for a few days there, but now I am getting hungry again..how will I make it! My surgery was Oct. 13th - my first fill is scheduled for Nov. 23..more than 30 days.

Kat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
