There is something called myralax that can be put in your Water or drink. This will help with the poo problem. It makes the Fluid you drink go to your intestines to help make you go. I wish someone would have told me this before. Please start this now or you will pay for it later, believe me! My doctor said it would not become necessary on a permanent basis. Start out taking each day and then start backing off until you get to maybe once a week. You can buy it at Walmart. Also, there is a tea called smooth moves. It works overnight. Only found it at my local grocery store. Couldn't find it at Walmart or target. Good luck!

I have heard on here numerous times that Milk of Magnesia (MOM) is a sure thing. Sounds like Myralax is very similar. I understand your frustration that is for sure! I am 3 1/2 months out and still have to take a magnesium supplement to ensure regular movement. But I feel lucky- that's the only issue I have encountered from surgery. Good Luck!!!!

Miralax is great to help you stay consistent, but you must make sure you drink plenty of fluids because the way it works is it sucks in fluids to work. If you don't have enough fluids, it will backfire on you. ;-)

Be careful with the smooth tea, I've heard that it can cause cramping - which may be what drinking coffee might do. If I were you, I'd ask your surgeon if/when you can drink coffee. Everyone here has a different plan and since if something goes wrong with you, your surgeon is the one who will be treating you, not other people's surgeon. :-)

I bought some Fiber gummies at Target and I try to take 4 of them over the course of the day. I'm just over 5 weeks post op and I've been taking them for the last 10-14 days. After a couple of bouts of extremely painful Constipation, I had to do something. I think they are working b/c no more constipation and I've been to the bathroom 3 times this morning and it isn't even 10 am. Everything is fine w/ it, but this is highly unusual for me so I'm guessing that the cumulative effect of several days worth of Fiber gummies is cleaning me out.

I will also occasionally take Senokot before bed, but I've only done that twice and once was to deal w/ the constipation issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
