One day after sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery yesterday, 12/17 and I'm feeling sore. However, I woke up at 1 am and I thought I was having a heart attack. The nurse said it is gas. Have anyone experience this?and what can you do to make it better? The nurse said that is from the surgery and beside walking there is nothing they can give me.

I too had surgery yesterday and have the same thing. You can also get that feeling from drink/swallowing too fast. I get up and walk or try to lay flat....sometimes that helps! Prayers for you

Congratulations on your surgery! Gas was my only issue when I was sleeved a week ago today. The more I walked the better it got. If you can't walk yet, try rolling your shoulders back one at a time at least to get some movement going to break it up. Best of luck to you!!! Feel better.

The more you walk, the better it gets. The gas is just trapped inside and needs to get out. Also, if you have some GasX strips, that really really helps! You will feel better soon, I promise and it will all be a memory before you know it!

I had my surgery yesterday and I feel wonderful. Could be my morphine pump or my pain ball. The only thing is I could not sleep. I was wide awake at 6 this morning. Cleaning up and putting makeup and walking around. What helps me is burping. Hope you feel better. Going to have my UGI soon. I'll be going home tomorrow morning.

I had the same problem after surgery. My doctor gave me Nexium for a couple of weeks and that settled it down. I am now 5 weeks post-op and don't experience this problem anymore.

I was sleeved yesterday. I am unhappy to say that I do not feel well today. The gas is the worst and the mini hiccups. Also get this weird pain between my belly button and my sternum. I just don't think I've bounced back as quick as most.

Surgery is tomorrow and I so glad to have read all these post about walking. I am promising to myself no matter how much pain I'm in or weak I am I will walk walk walk as soon as I get clearance to do so. Need to keep in mind that's the only way I will feel better.

Walking helps a lot! So does sitting straight up or flat as much as you can handle for pain. Also if it hurts don't hesitate to use the pain meds like i did....i regretted it after it got so bad i thought i was dying lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
