High Protein, Low Fat, Low Carb foods for Vegetarians ?

I am a vegetarian. Even the best hi-Protein vegetarian foods have only 10-15% Proteins and 70% carbs (Beans, milk, legumes, cheese) and quite substantial fat too. Any suggestions for hi-protein vegetarian foods with low carbs and low fats.

Have you considered meatless alternatives like Yves meat substitute or seitan? Both are decent in terms of Protein and relatively low in carbs.

If you are strict vegetarian, you ate likely not going to find a solution in the form of a whole unprocessed food.

You can however get your Protein requirements filled by using alternatives such as :

Hemp Protein powder

TVP (textured vegetable protein)

Soy Protein powders or RTD

Sifted vegetable Proteins

Just remember, almost all vegetarian Proteins are not complete proteins. So you will need to use a protein blend or have several different protein sources. There are definitely obsticals to overcome doing this 100% vegan, but it can be done.

Now if you were willing to do the lacto-vegetarian or ovo-vegetarian thing it becomes super easy very quickly.

Morningstar farms frozen soy products are delicious. cheese is not too high in carbs as compared to legumes.

Thanks to you all. Chickpeas have too many calories. Thanks for your suggestions. One thing, I am a vegetarian but not vegan !

Edamame has ~8 to 11g per 1/2 cup. I use it in stir fry or they have small bags for Snacks. Dry roasted soy nuts have 68g per cup! I can't have those yet but used to season them with curry & eat them. The Fiber is about have the number of carbs, 9 carbs in the uncooked but 4 g fiber.

There is no difference in the diet of a vegetarian & a vegan.

Vegetarians observe a vegan diet. Vegan consider the no animal products as a lifestyle rather than simply a diet choice.

Sorry if I offended you but dietarily they are identical.

I thought a vegetarian could have dairy? Or is that the octo-tarian? Or whatever....I get them all mixed up.

A vegetarian avoids meat. A vegan avoids products that come from animals like egg, milk, or honey, even if the animal is not harmed.

Hi Indian. I am also vegetarian and am looking to get sleeved in February. I follow and Indian vegetarain diet, but try not to eat Indian food so much because it's very high in carbs: rice and rotis (like wheat tortillas), curries with potatos etc. Sorry to cross post, but I asked this somewhere else: how do sleevers tolerate spicy foods? Since I travel alot, sometimes my only food choices would be rice and spicy curries and sometimes there's no choice! Feel free to chime in what your thoughts about this are.

I too was wondering what other good protien sources there are for vegetarians.

Dietary terms

Vegetarian = Vegan

Ovo-Vegetarian = Vegan + eggs

Lacto-Vegetarian = Vegan + Milk

Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian = Vegan + eggs + Milk

Pescatarian = Vegan+ Fish

Pollotarian = Vegan + Fowl

Pollo-Pescatarian = Vegan + Fish + Fowl

Flexotarian = Vegan + occasionally adding Fish, Fowl, Milk, Eggs

I have no problem with spicy foods, except that I can't drink anything for 30 minutes afterward to wash it down.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
