Hi Aquasky13, Dr Nottle is my doctor and i didnt wait that long at all,i guess it depends if you are going through private or public, and the hospital you chose to have it at also. i only waited 4 weeks as i went private. so i guess it depends on which way you go, hope that helps a bit!

Like Phili said it depends if you have cover

Apparently if you are willing to go in for day surgery you will be able to get done very quick, as there isnt much wait time.

Where are you seeing him at?

ah kool...u must be from around my area:)

i know of someone that saw him a few weeks ago and she is going public, she was told she should be banded in jan, so thats not a long wait on the public list

If you dont wanna stay in overnight, you can go for day surgery which is alot quicker to get banded

It really depends if u wanna spend the night in hosp or not

Hi Aquasky13...

Firstly congrats on taking the first step.. Perhaps I can help with a few questions.. I was banded almost 4 months ago under Dr Nottle I went in as a public patient.. I saw him in late december and was banded in july so 7 months before I had my operation.. Me and my best friend went and seen him at the same time and she was banded 4 days ago so I guess it all depends she waited 9 almost 10 months...

Tarajane, If your Dil has a health care card there should be no costs involved... The only thing I had to pay for was the dietician ( $ 80.00 ) and I only had to see him once.. I do not pay for fills, I did not have to pay out anything for the operation at all..

Hope this helps.. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask..

Cheers

Thanks lil for the info. Yes she does have a HCC. Do you know why your friend had to wait so much longer for her op? 7 months is great, I expected it to be several years, I went private and waited 4 months. As a public patient what happens if you have a slip or other problem? would you have to go back on the waiting list again to be fixed?

To be honest I have no idea why her wait was longer than mine? We seen him the same day different time I guess I just got in earlier?? She also had alot of health issues. sleep Aponea and He aslo made her go on the Optifast before surgery.

I was shocked at the waiting period to as I thought I would be waiting years for it :)

Good question I guess if it doesn't cause us alot of pain or interferes with our health we most likely would go back on the waiting list but I doubt we would have to wait the same amount of time as we did to get it.. I will have to ask about that myself..

I was done at the Williamstown hospital and I was only in for the night I was home early the next morning.. But I have since heard that if you don't have kids under the age of 5 they allow you to go home the same day..

Is you DIL planning on using Dr Nottle?

I think she will go anywhere, basically wherever the shortest wait is. i personally chose my surgeon for reputation etc but not having health cover she doesnt have that luxury. I wouldnt recommend going home same day, I stayed in one and a half days after my op and needed that time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
