I've got this pain in my middle back just below my shoulder blades that kinda concerns me. It only bothers me if Im sitting with my back un-supported (like on a bench) or walking slowly (grocery shopping). If I sit down on the couch or lay down it will go away. It feels like a muscle strain. Its not agonizing pain but it is very uncomfortable. I called my surgeons office about it and they dismissed it as "air in my abdomin from surgery". I went for my one month check up on 12-4-12 and the P.A. immediately said "It's pain radiating from the mesh they put in on your left side".

Everything else has been great, lost 70lbs since I started the pre-op diet on 10-18-12 and all my other pains have been GREATLY reduced.

Anybody else having this issue? Pain from the mesh?

I have been having pain too, like s burning type pain if I stand in 1 spot too long and sit without my back on the chair. What is this mesh they are talking about?

They said that they put a mesh under the left most incision because it was the largest and it would give tissue something better to adhere too.

Thanks Traci J !!!

70 lbs is only a drop in the bucket though, I weighed almost 400lbs.

Every day is new adventure!!!

Well to be honest I don't recall them saying how long it would last but assumed that it would go away by now, if thats what the pain is caused by.

I also am six weeks out, and experiencing the same pain. It seems to get worse as the day goes on, or I've been doing a lot of physical work.

Thant seems to be the way mine is. No problems in the morning but the more I stand or sit at the computer (straight up,no back support) the worse it gets.

If the pain continues, insist on more of an investigation. It's your body, you know when something is right and when it's not!

Well the pain did go away on its own after a full year. Guess my muscles just weren't used to the body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
