One evening when I was about a week post- op my partner opened a bottle of wine and after a taste told me how good it was. Without thinking I took a sip and it was seriously painful. From my experience we could argue the right and wrong forever, but one sip will give you your answer.

I was in your same shoes, I had my surgery one week before I turned 21. I was fine with not drinking on my actually birthday. I had my first drink at 4 weeks post op I had a margarita from Disney California adventure and it went down perfectly fine, and yea we are now cheap dates I got a buzz from it lol by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :)

Can you have a sip or 2 of alchol 1 week post op. Today is my 21 birthday and just wondering

I had to sign a waiver that I would not drink alcohol for a year if not longer. The way it was explained to me, it has nothing to do with hurting you stomach, but it has everything to do with how your body will handle alcohol. The smaller stomach has fewer enzymes to break down the alcohol and you have teh potential to become inebriated much more quickly.

21 is a special year, but like everyone else said, you should wait. It doesn't matter that there may be alcohol in your Loratab. When you are on Loratab, you are not allowed to drive or handle large equipment/machines because of impaired judgement.

I understand that some people have had a terrible experience with this surgery. I read your story and truly feel for you. That said your attitude with people and the ugliness you spew at a simple question is uncalled for and despicable. Perhaps you need a new outlet for your rage. This is certainly not the place for it.

I couldn't agree more..It's gets so tiring to see the same people with the same negative responses, over and over again..

I drank at maybe 10 days out and it wasn't just a few sips either, I had a fair few double vodka's (I'm gonna get slammed for this) and was perfectly fine. It doesn't sound to me that you want to go out and get wasted so ignore all the harsh comments you have received and have a Happy, Happy Birthday!!!

Again you should do what your Doc tells you no one here will know what's best for you over what your Doc would with that said I would not and still have not but only drank maybe 2 times a year before I was sleeved. My doc said after 3 weeks it would be fine for me but again not something I did before so not a big thing for me.So ask your doc it is something I'm sure you could call and ask and you would get better info from the doc them us ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
