Happy Birthday! I just want to say that I had a tiny sip of a fall punch about 4 weeks post-op-well, about 20 minutes later I was sick as a dog! It wasn't worth it at all! Meanwhile, I asked my doctor last week at my 2 month post op visit about alcohol and she said they recommend waiting 3 months and then to avoid beer and wine. She said have Crystal Lite with a dash of vodka would be ok. Also, she warned that sleevers are cheap dates-be careful, the buzz sneaks up on you! Good luck!

If your doc didn't say anything about booze it was because you were underage, but seriously...call him, see the reaction and then make your decision.

Why did you have the surgery? Did he also not mention that you shouldn't eat half a prime rib as a celebration either??? I'm sorry, but this is a silly question and speaks highly of someone who wasn't ready for the surgery. No you shouldn't have a drink ONE WEEK after a major surgery.

I don't want to sound like an ass- but I'm going to. Or everyone who is so concerned with consuming alcohol so soon after surgery I want you to take a good hard look and the label on your liquid Lortab. It's 14 proof. Not going to say that anyone should go out drinking but please spare me the dramatics of pouring alcohol on an open wound.

No wonder it burned going down! LOL.

I don't think it's a good idea either. Your stomach is basically new, like a babies stomach. That's why we start at liquids, the work our way up to solids again....so that our stomach can heal. Alcohol is very strong and has a lot of sugar. You may dump:( I'm sorry that you can't Celebrate with alcohol, but just having this surgery is a celebration in itself:)) Happy Birthday!!

Actually I would say what I said to her face if she was asking me this in person. I don't hide behind a computer. I am a real person and I care about other's deeply. I suffered terrible consequences of having this surgery so in person or on line, if you take a stupid risk I would call you out on it. I don't want anyone to suffer damage nor destroy their efforts with stupidity. If at one week you are even contemplating something like this...you shouldn't have had the surgery. Period.

Wow! STUPIDITY? Smh! I rest my case. That just validated my previous post! There are people who are not well informed that's why there is this forum for. Last i checked this was a forum.. for people to ask. Keep it moving!!

Someone asking about booze a couple months out would get an entirely different answer than someone one week out would get from me. Not well informed??? Well you just had your freaking gut cut out of your body...if you weren't informed you shouldn't have done it! There's even that silly little thing...common sense? My doctor did not tell me I couldn't swallow a sword or fire the first month after surgery so heck...he didn't say it so I'm gonna have me a nice flaming ball of cotton for lunch.

Stupid sure :) But at least I can come to a public forum and be told it's "OK" because it's just a little charcoal. If I spit it back out I'll be fine right?

Happy 21st! What a present you gave yourself. Just be careful. You don't want to risk all the hard work you've put in. It must be tough to be 1 week post op during your 21st bday. Have fun either way! I would double check with your doc. Explain the situation. Maybe they can come up with an idea for you.

Happy 21st Birthday! My doctor said no drinking at all for at least 6 months - so that's what I'm doing. Seeing friends for the holidays at a bar this weekend & I'll have my trusty Water with me...Happy Holidays to everyone!

Not a good idea, not only because you are freshly sleeved but because alcohol is nothing but empty calories and you are trying to lose not gain. I'm 6 months out and I am refusing to touch it ever again, not worth it.

Hi! I know its hard to not want to have a drink when you turn 21 or have a drink with friends, but talk to your doctor about when the earliest is. I'm 22 and just got sleeved last week and am not telling my friends. Its going to be tough to all of the sudden disappear - from outings with people my age, but it will be worth it when I am healthy just like all of them! but like everyone else said it's not worth a chance at harming your new stomach! Just remember why you did it! you will be happier when you start seeing results!

Thanks to everyone that answer nicely and just explained. I very very rarely ever drink but was just curious to if anyone had done it. To those that were complete smart ellics you need to understand that you can get your point across without criticizing and trying to hurt someone. You don't have to.be an association to explain why.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
