Incisions and Pants

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved next month and I'm going back to school/work less than a week afterwards. I'm not too worried about fatigue because I only have to be there an hour most days then I can come home and rest if I need to. I am, however, wondering about being able to wear normal (button/zip up) pants. I have read so much advice about wearing stretchy pants to and from the hospital so as not to bother the incision sites, but I'm not sure how long I should wear stretchy pants. I don't have a clear concept of where the incision sites will be yet, but I am wondering if I will need to invest in some stretchy pants for work because I don't really own anything like that or if I should be fine buttoning or zipping up some pants within 4 days or so after surgery? Thanks.

I was very swollen for about a week. Stretchy pants are a must while in the hospital. Incisions for sleeve for me were 4 equally spaced lines about 1 inch long about 2 inches above belly button, and 2 hole like marks under each breast. Best of luck with your surgery

You can always wear dresses.

I like dresses, but it's pretty cold where I am and I've read that so many people feel even colder after surgery that I'm not too sure about that option. On the other hand, I do have a full-length super warm winter coat, so I guess dresses might be a possibility.

Hi icon. I'm 11ish days post op and can eat jeans. They are loose from weight loss and my incisions are 1 in belly button and all other at least 2 inches higher than that. Most of my jeans hit as low waist area and are fine. My dress pants hit higher so I just roll em down once and they seem fine also. Just depends on how you feel!

I'd buy a couple of pairs of stretchy pants and if you have some dresses, some tights so you can wear them without freezing. I was swollen and sore for about three weeks. If you feel great post-op, you can always return the pants.

With the exception of my port drain, all my incisions were at least 3" above the belly button/waist. Port drain was about 2" above. I did, however, try to keep myself in stretchy things and dresses because it was really easily irritated.

I was back to work within a week, and I had no problems wearing my normal pants to work. I wouldn't put a large investment into clothing that you won't be wearing very long.

I don't have trouble wearing pants... I had my surgery on 12.12.12... My belly was swollen, but I pulled out jeans to wear out of the house yesterday and they were fine... All of my incision sites are above my belly button at least 2 inches...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
