6 days post op and feel very depressed

Recommended Posts

I am on the full liquids diet for another week then move up to purred for 2 weeks then softs for 2 weeks.. Right now I can hardly get down broth without feeling it get caught in my stomach and hurt but then it does go down.. I am wondering if itll always feel like this or does it get better? Will I one day be able to eat food without it getting caught?? I feel almost castrophobic in a sense because I want to eat more food and I can't and I feel very depressed.. Can anyone who's a few months out give me advice please

It will soooooo get better! I experienced the same! You are still really swollen and therefore everything that goes in feels crazy- claustrophobic. Hang in there. My stomach was really swollen for the first two weeks (sometimes up to a month) and just sips were a challenge. The stages your doctor gave you are for a really good reason and sometimes you have to go back to liquids if your body isn't ready- again very normal. Hang in there. You will feel better. Especially when you look at the scale and its going down- that was my motivation.

I'm right there with you. I had surgery on Tuesday, and up until yesterday every time I swallowed I felt it was pushing to get through, not painful, but a little scary that it would not end. I sipped some peppermint tea and sat with a heating pad for a little yesterday, and I think It helped. I woke up this morning with hardly any discomfort at all. Are you on anything for gas? I know that was a big issue for me the first few days also.

Good luck, you can do this.

I feel ya Hun, I just accidentally chugged a 2.5oz Protein Drink because it was thick like hair gel and kinda gross and I knew if I stopped I wouldn't take another drink. Dear lord almost threw up and blacked out. Was a horrible feeling. I'm still nausea and dizzy. I miss food too, but I made one of my famous Soups for dinner tonight and I'm gonna throw mine in the blender so I can enjoy it too. I'm 6days out as well. scales hardly moved, I'm tired of drinking my food, but I'm praying that this was the right choice and one day the scale will move and I'll be eating again one day

I am almost 4 weeks post op and ohhhhh man, I know your pain. Please don't be depressed...this is a process-a frustrating one for sure at times....but it will get better. Once you start eating food again, it will not be the same...not for a long time. I blogged about my personal experience at myfriendsthinkimcrazy.wordpress.com if you want a laugh :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
