starving! 4 days post op!

Recommended Posts

I continue telling myself, this is mental. But I am soooo hungry, I would not be in fear to eat Anything at this point. But of course, will not risk deviating from phase 1 due to staples etc. Anyone else starving or is this exactly why I am obese!!!

I think alot of that is head hunger (cause you're used to eating at certain times and certain amounts, etc.), but I've also heard that acid buildup in the stomach can feel like hunger as well. Your Dr. should've prescribed you something.

I agree with Traci, Alot of it is head hunger. It is quite a change. Hang on..it will get better.

I am 12 days out and yep, I feel hunger. I have figured out the difference between head hunger and real hunger though. If you are drinking constantly, which you should be, then you won't really be hungry. It won't take much to fill you up. If you do feel hungry, then drink a Protein Shake. You aren't likely getting enough anyway and I found the more Protein I got, the better I felt. I choke them down and am not a huge fan but know that this is the deal for right now. I keep reminding myself that this stage is temporary and will be over soon. You can do it!!

I'm like 4 Lady Di, I'm not hungry BUT last I decided (old habit that will NOT happen again) since I was feeling SO great (surgery was 12/10) that I was going to chance a few chocolate chips....MISTAKE. They came right back up. I don't want any chocolate now on the brightside. Stick with the Water and Protein if you can. It takes about 3 or 4 swallows; then you will be stuffed. You will be on to mushy/soft food b4 you know it. Good luck to you!!

Yep, that head hunger is a killer. And it feels so real. Plenty of people feel this way for the first 2 weeks. As soon as you start eating solid food again it usually goes away.

I am almost 6 weeks out. From post op day 1 to about day 12, I was soooo hungry all the time. My stomach was growling constantly. It finally went away. Hang in there. It will get better..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
