I was sleeved on Tuesday and the gas was the only thing bothering me. It turned a corner today. Much , Much better. I had been sleeping in my recliner until last night. Slept very comfortably in bed and don't know if being on my back was what finally did it.

Are you taking any Prilosec or Zantac? My doctor prescribed it for a month after surgery. I purchased the generic and have been crushing it and having with some sugar free pudding.< /p>

Heating pads can help a good deal to passively move the gas. It won't linger much longer...and, yes, walking because it helps absorb the gas as well as move it around. (When you sit still, the gas concentrates in the space and bloats.)

I will try walking more. The only thing I was told to pick up was Gas Ex for the gas pains. I'm drinking some Decaf tea and this seems to allow me to burp a bit. Did it hurt any of you to burp, cough or sneeze?

Yes, it would still hurt me to sneeze...and the burping/gas is uncomfortable in my chest. :(

My sleeve was done on Dec. 7 and I still have the burps but the gas pain is so much better. Walking does help but also just moving around is good - changing positions. One thing that has changed for me is that I belch all the time and my family is just used to it now. My boys (age 2 and 4) giggle constantly about it and I find the humor refreshing.

Good luck to you!!

Steph

Patience! Surgery is a big deal....hang in there. It will change, it's temporary - and is for the most part driven by drinking shakes...as you head to food, more and more, you will reduce this issue more and more. Best wishes!

I have the same issue I had mine Tuesday and I'm still experiencing what I think is gas every time I eat or drink. Is this normal? I'm six days post op. thank you.

That sounds more like you would benefit from a PPI like Prilosec. Really slow sips over a looooong time. You're sleeve is swollen and easily irritated. Temperature may help too. Cold Fluid versus warm/hot, for example. The surgical gas happens independent of eating or drinking. Happy Healing! Welcome to the losers bench :)

I was sleeved last Wed as well... The Chamomile Tea has been great... It really soothes your tummy and it has helped with the gas!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
