A twist to all the Hair loss posts! :-)

My hair is growing back. At 4 months postop my hair is still falling out at times but since i cut it short it's slowed down.

Anyway, my scalp is itchy!!!! Is that the new growth? I don't have dandruff. The only other thing I can think of is I started to use hairspray to keep my new hairstyle in place. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you tried Vitamin E capsules? It's supposed to stimulate the hair follicles. Check with your doctor before you use it though.

Like rubbing them in my scalp or taking them as a supplement?

As far as the "itchy"-ness, it could definitely be the new hairspray. Higher alcohol content does that.

ALSO,this time of year, I tell several of my clients this as this is their #1 complaint right now. "My scalp itches....do I have dandruff?": it's normal this time of year. The weather is changing. We are in generated heat all day long. In our cars, our homes, and at work. The heat is blowing non-stop. It's just getting dry. We put lotion on our skin to counteract it. Our scalp suffers a little also. It gets itchy before it starts flaking. I use a dandruff/itchy scalp Shampoo once a week and it helps quite a bit. I prefer the Matrix brand, but there are several others. I use it on my scalp then use my regular shampoo on the rest of my hair.

I don't know if you are living in an area that is getting cooler right now so this may or may not help you at all!

Glad your hair is coming back in. Cute cut!

Thank you so much for the info! I washed my head w dandruff Shampoo, didn't use hairspray today. I also just rubbed Vit E on my scalp. Just lightly. So far it feels good. And the Vit E will moisturize my hair too!!

I live in TX and we haven't had to heat the house yet! Still using a/c. :(

Thanks again for both of your great advice. I hope it works.

No Prob! I hope things work out. I've just started letting my hair grow back from a cut over the past months and really seeing a lot of growth. I'm worried my hair will break off like so many others. The one thing I will do is to continue not to use harsh chemical treatments like color, perm and I've been relaxer free for 2 years now and I'll also stay away from a lot of heat (blow dryer and flat iron).

I'm glad you asked about this. I have already suffered Hair loss due to hypothyroidism (and it's never coming back), so I really am NOT looking forward to more patchy spots.

Also, you do have a cute hair cut. I used to wear my hair like that when I was lighter. Lately I keep it shoulder-length because I was so self-conscious of having a small head versus a big body.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
