I don't think you need to do anything. I went with a bag of crap and needed nothing. They even supplied the robe.. I did prefer my own tooth brush, but I was only there 2 days and was walking most of that time and trying to sip on 1-2 ounces of Water. Don't bring anything of value.. No phones or Ipads etc. My sister had her Ipad stolen during her surgery, but eventually found it when the only person she saw in the room somehow found it in the laundry.. :-) I don't think you'll even need the PJ's. Johnnies and a robe and little slipper socks were all provided to me. Like I said, I had brought all of that, but it was unnecessary.. Good luck, this is the BEST gift you could ever give yourself..

I think every hospital is different. I was told to take a shower, but not to scrub my belly with anything particular. I was told to bring comfortable clothing that I would not be upset if they got blood on them. As a precaution, I would take at least some basic things like the tooth brush and a sweater or bathrobe.

The thing I used the most actually was a retractable back scratcher. The pain meds they gave made me a bit itchy and was sooo happy for it. I was also happy for my phone, ipad and stretchie pants. I really didn't need much else.

Best of luck!!!

I did bring my phone which was nice to have but I was too tired for any other diversions. lol I pretty much slept/drank/peed/walked and then by the time your done you're ready for another nap! ;) I did enjoy having my own robe but it's not necessary, mine is very long so when I draped it behind me I felt safely covered and also if you are not big on sleeping with their slipper socks on it was nice to have slip on slippers from home (def not a necessity but I don't like asking for help to put them on every time I need to get up). Oh, and definitely bring some type of chapstick/carmex, it is so dry in the hospital! Hmmm, I can't think of anything else you might need! Good luck! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
