Except it to be for fornication.....

Notice that's if the WIFE is a fornicator. It doesn't say anything about putting away (divorcing) a philandering husband.

But divorce isn't the problem. It's the re-marrying that the verse prohibits. So if you're divorced, you can just choose not to have sex - ever. That way, you will be keeping the Lord's word.

Sorry...I have to go. It's my turn to Lector tonight at Mass. Fortunately the reading is from Deuteronomy.

Yes it would if in their hearts they were truly sorry for their acts.

And God of course knows what's in your heart.

Our nation was founded on biblical principles. Like Carol said, our money says "IN GOD WE TRUST". Our national anthem says, "ONE NATION UNDER GOD". No matter how bad people want to try to disprove this fact, it doesn't change.

"IN GOD WE TRUST" does not belong on our money and "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" was added while I went to grade school; I remember coming into school one day and someone had inked in the words on the poster we (were forced) to recite each day. "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" is not in the national anthem, it is in the pledge of allegiance to a piece of cloth used as a implement of war. Yes, the reason for flags was so that the people killing each other knew which side they were on. The national anthem, a poor excuse for a war song does not contain "ONE NATION UNDER GOD".

Maybe one reason that the USA has bombed more countries than all the other countries of the combined since 1945 and spends more money each year on its military than all the other countries of the world combined is that we start training our children to accept and expect war with pledges to a war implement and songs glorifying war as soon as they enter pre-k.

Leatha did a good job of summing it up....it all comes down to faith. I have faith that my beliefs are true. If it turns out that their not (which I believe with my whole heart they are true), I have lost nothing.

I have faith that my beliefs are true also. My beliefs are the opposite of yours. What can we do? How about both of us minding our business and letting people who are in love get married.

Why not let people believe what they want to believe? I believe homosexuality is wrong. I have many friends that live that lifestyle. My wife's hairdresser for 12+ yrs was gay. That still doesn't change my position. If you want to be gay, be gay. Just don't force your views on me and my family. By the same token, don't attack a person (I respect Carol for taking a stand against so many that don't agree) because they believe differently than you.
If you don't believe in same gender marriage, don't marry a man. But you have no right to force people who want to marry, not to marry.

And no one has attacked Carol. Carol has said conflicting things about the Old Testament and New Testament. She was told that there were conflicts in what she had said. No one insulted her.

Some people say they are not Biblical scholars, but they follow the word of God. How do they know they are following the word of God, if they do not know the Bible?

Okay so that's what it stands for on the lapband instruction page. How was I to know? lol
I am only teasing.

I am not offended.

The only thing you can call me that will offend me is "LATE FOR DINNER". :faint:

So you're in agreement with the scriptures? That remarriage, except for the man who divorces an unfaithful woman, is a sin?

Carol, may I make a suggestion? When you answer other people, like you did a few posts above, could you say who you are talking to, or quote the question?

If you don't know how to quote or Copy & Paste, I would be more than happy to explain it to you.

I think it's their choice to do so. It is not my place to judge them.

But it's your place to prohibit them from entering into a CIVIL (not religious) union for the sole purpose of protecting each of them in terms of inheritance, workers/survivors benefits, community property, etc?

Oops, that's what I meant...the pledge not the anthem. Thank you for that correction. Like it or not, GOD is part of our government b/c it is on our money and in our pledge. I am proud when I hear our PreK son recite the pledge of allegiance. He also knows the pledge for the Christian flag and the Bible of which I'm also proud.

How about both of us minding our business and letting people who are in love get married.

It isn't something I spend my day thinking about. It isn't my business until it affects me. When it does, I hope that I have the chance to cast my vote to make sure my voice is heard as well as those that choose to become homosexual couples.

How do they know they are following the word of God, if they do not know the Bible?

I have no idea. Doesn't seem right although the Bible is strongly viewed through interpretation. I may read a verse and get a total different meaning than you. It's important to follow your heart and have faith that you are following the truth.

Your church should be following the words of the Bible. Doesn't your church follow the words of the bible? If they do what does your bible say?

Which bible do you mean? There are several. King James wanted a divorce from his wife because she couldn't have a son....he knocked up one of the handmaids and she had a son....so he had the bible rewritten ...so that he could marry her.....hence the King James Verson....and I don't really care either way....I am just curious when someone says "the bible" ...which one??

So many people don't agree with what is supposed to be the original bible, that they go off and make their own religion......hard to know which is accurate. (esp since the orig bible was written many many years after the incidents written in it)

I am not trying to cause grief....it just facinates me. I think we should all be multi-denominational.....but that is just my own opinion :)

Hmmmm. What if someday the US govt decided that men and women could only marry virgins? No fornicators allowed. Would it be OK to have that much religion in our laws? Or...decided that church gift shops were moneychangers in the temples, and ransacked any churches with gift shops? How far are you comfortable going without separation of church and state? We've seen what happens in the extreme with religious theocracies....How much is too much? I would rather be a country built on religious freedom than on religion.

:) I'd rather be a country built on the faith of God, not necessary from the Bible, but just knowing they have faith in God would comfort me. It seems that people who have faith in our Father are more likely to make fair and honest judgements. But they must have FAITH in their hearts.

I would also like to see laws be made through the same kind of people........ Just a thought.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
