Sharp stinging and burning pains

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Tuesday and came home Thursday afternoon..

I've been in pain since I got home. Mainly on my left side. When I pull myself into a sitting position, get up, or sit down. My left side burns and has a stinging pain. Is this normal? I usually have to take the pain medication they gave me every 4-6 hours on the dot because of this pain alone.

I get my drain removed Monday and will be asking her about this. I was just wondering if it's normal. Or if anyone else had it.

I think the hardest part of things has been the pain. I questioned myself a day after surgery, wondering if this was the smartest decision. I also have tons of gas and grumbling. And really loose stool, diarrhea, and grumbling before I actually let loose. (Sorry if that's TMI.) I hope all these start to go away. So tired of feeling like this already.

Hi Tiffany Winn, I also was sleeved on Tuesday and came home Thursday. Sorry to hear your having so much troubles, my pain is mostly quieted down now and in control but amazingly I have a little light gas and none diarhia just yet which also can be normal. They seemed to say most pains were in the cuts and not the stomach, I would disagree with that now. Most all my pains were internal but are managable now. If I were you I'd devote a day or two to no motion and sleep as much as I could on my back. I think your body needs some rest, if you have a tempeture or rapid heart rates thats a worry, otherwsie you should get better with the pain I think.

Most of my pain is on the left, the vacuous hole where most of my stomach was. As for the burning, maybe it's heartburn. The acid levels should go down when your body learns that you have a smaller stomach.

I'm experiencing the same pain. Pain meds do not seem to help me but only to knock me out at night. My doc recommended I keep moving to get beyond the pain but my whole body shakes from the pain. I only have relief when sitting down and not moving. If not for this incision pain I would be doing great right now (sleeved on 12/11).

I had a sharp burning pain on the left side that didn't start till 6 weeks out and occured when getting up our bending over to put on my shoes. Thankfully it only lasted about 10 days, and the doc said it was a nerve in the healing process. At 6 months out that whole area is numb - pretty much no feeling at all on the surface.

My belly button incision is leaking a little bit. Is this normal?

Thanks guys! I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this. The pain is lessening slightly but still there and gets bad until I use a heating pad or pain medicine. I'm trying not to take the pain meds as much now.

Leaking is also kinda normal.. but depends on the color. Is it bloody/pusy? I would def call your surgeon and make sure. I'm lucky in mine hasn't really been leaking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
