Vitamins after gastric sleeve

One bit of advice....

Don't buy the huge bottle!

So many things were ok pre-op that I hated post op. Plus, I am so tired of the taste of some of Vitamins. I have a 180 count (expensive) bottle of Bariatric Advantage chewable multi-vitamins that make me nauseous every time I chew one.

Had my doctor write me an Rx for Centrum liquid multi-Vitamin a few days ago. It is still OTC, but with an Rx, it is covered by my flex spending account (tax free money).

Cyanocobalamin is one of the worst types of B12 for the body. Sure' date=' it's what doctors inject into you, but your body has a hard time using it and you need a higher dosage. Methylcobalamin is the best type of over the counter B12. Read this article:

Gastric bypass patients have a lot more problems with Vitamins than sleeve patients do as their intestines were bypassed, and ours were not.

I totally agree. I bought the big bottle of BA chewable vitamins and finally tossed them. Yuck. I switched to adult Gummy Multivitamins until I could tolerate the OTC recommended Vitamins by 21st Century.

This is what I started taking about two months after surgery:

Morning:

Mega Multi for Women by 21st Century

Vitamin D - 2000 IU

Vitamin B12 - 500 mcg

Calcium Citrate with D

Biotin - 5000 mcg

Dinner:

Mega Multi for Women by 21st Century

Iron (Ferrous sulfate)

Bedtime:

calcium citrate with D

Magnesium 300-500 mg

Okay' date=' I'm going to be honest, I've never really taken Vitamins ever in my life, I know not good BUT I'm hearing that if I Don't take them now I will loose a lot of my hair + they will help give me the energy to move (which I barely have!) can someone Please tell me the Vitamins I need to go buy?! I'm a week and 1/2 post op and just never really looked into this aspect of the surgery =\

Biotin is what I was told to take for hair, nails & skin. I got a sublingual from the Vitamin shoppe. I also take 2 Gummy One A Day Multi Vitamins, sublingual B12 and calcium citrate chews. Good luck :)

Well, I do still have Hair loss. I started out with thin fine hair. To ME, it's obviously thinner.. I mean, I can see my scalp - but I always could anyhow. :) I started taking Biotin four months before surgery so that my body would have it in the system before the shock of losing weight. My hair dresser added more blond highlights on the top so that my scalp isn't quite as obvious. But... we do have a gal at work who has REALLY thinning hair and I know my hair isn't as thin as hers. (Or I hope it isn't.)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
