Vitamins after gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm going to be honest, I've never really taken Vitamins ever in my life, I know not good BUT I'm hearing that if I Don't take them now I will loose a lot of my hair + they will help give me the energy to move (which I barely have!) can someone Please tell me the vitamins I need to go buy?! I'm a week and 1/2 post op and just never really looked into this aspect of the surgery =\

Thanks in advance for all of the help!

I need to start taking mine. My surgery was on Tuesday,

The nutritionist I talked to before the surgery recommended CHEW-ABLE multi Vitamins and chewable Calcium. You will have to really chew them. I bought them from sams club in big jars cause they come with so much more for the price.

What liquids are you using ?

Natures answer makes a liquid multi. So does Centrum.

B1 I open the capsule in a shot of Water

B12 I take micro ligually

Calcium I take up cal D

And D3 I use drops.

Surprised my NUT lol, I'm super afraid of pills. I can eat an egg but can't take a pill lol

I am using Wellesse brand, they have it all. https://wellesse.alice.com/

I am pre-op, but the Wellesse brand has a Multivitamin, calcium/vitamin D, and B complex all available in liquid form. I am taking a multi, now but will start the others a.s.ap. Just thought I would add my two cents! LOL!

This stuff is going perfect with the post op liquid diet, I am 3 days out.

Congrats on being 3 days post-op!

Did you take your Vitamins pre-op too? I was told I would have to get B12 shots, but I said "NOT IF I CAN HELP IT! LOL! I don't understand why I would need the shots if my multi has b Vitamin in it and I am taking a liquid b complex with b12 in it. Anyway, I can't believe the Vitamins are already working.. the taste is a little difficult, but I think it is worth it!

Kaiser won't give us B12 shots. As they are either weekly or monthly, in the long run you get less B12 than if you were to take it sublingual. The sleeve doesn't change your anatomy or how you absorb Vitamins. Only RNY does that as they bypass.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
