My surgery is set for january

Recommended Posts

I'm set for Jan 9 provided my insurance approves it! My paper work was sent in on Dec 4 and I am still waiting to hear from them. I hope they hurry soon I don't want to go thru the preop diet for nothing.

You have been waiting since December 4th? Has your surgeon's office called to get an update or least confirmed that your insurance got your request? I used to work with medical insurance companies. Might want to check on things and make sure no one has dropped the ball.

For anyone who has there pre op appointment' date=' how does that work? What is done and talked about in that appointment?[/quote']

My pre-op was EKG,Pulmonary Test which was kind of difficult to me,labs&EDG and my last appointment before surgery on the 7th is with anesthesia on the 4th.Why do I have to see anesthesia before surgery if anyone know?

Well my doc told me since my labs was done over 30 days ago I have to have them done again, I've had my ekg, xray, physical and ultrasound done. So I haven't the slightest as to what they are goin to do...I'm excited tho...

You need to see anesthesia before surgery so they can assess you themselves to determine the best type of anesthesia specifically for you. A lot of the tests are done to determine that, what your lungs are capable of handling, etc. sometimes the anesthesia is harder on the body than the surgery is lol. Very important

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
