Mirilax! Anything that's a natural laxative should also do the trick.

The Miralax label says it can take a day to work, but the thing about you being post op is that you haven't had food for a while, so you may not have anything in your system. You can take a little every day to keep things moving, but until you start full liquids, etc then nothing might happen for you. I've read on here about people not going for weeks. You can take a little laxative for peace of mind, but I wouldn't worry too much at 3 days out ;-)

You should NOT take miralax! Or any other by mouth laxative. You should not put anything in your pouch that has not been preapproved by your doctor. The reason you are constipated is all of the pain meds you are on. I asked my doc & he said its normal to not go for 4-6 days after surgery. If it starts becoming bothersome you can use a suppository. Sold next to the laxatives, work in about 10-30 minutes. Don't put anything in your pouch you haven't talked to your doc about.

Of course you should talk to your doctor about it. My doctor said I could take it within the first week, his diet moves to full liquids by day 3 and mushy by day 7. He's seen a lot of backed up patients, and getting that cleared out in a hospital is painful and no fun for anyone (poor nurses!)

I'm 2 weeks post... Started MiraLAX day 4.., realized I didn't need daily... Actually hadn't used since 1st week. It doesn't make you go, just makes it bearable in case you might be constipated. I lucked out, so far no constipation...

I experienced the same thing after surgery and even 4 months out it still happens. Doctor recommended Miralax. I keep it handy!

I am nine days post op and it was a couple days before I went. I thought I was having trouble. So, my doctor said MOM Milk of Magnsium, and it will work quickly!!! So you'll feel good soon!!! I hope you have a dr to call for guidance.

You are lucky! I'm on liquids for 2 weeks' date=' then puréed for 3 weeks.. Then I hit soft foods. I can't wait for that.. I'm already sick of jello![/quote']

I'm amazed at how the diets vary between doctors!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
