Recovery time, nausea, and air?

Recommended Posts

What has everyones experience been with recovery time... etc?

I am scheduled for surgery 12/26/12, and return to work post op seven days to the date.

Curious about external wounds and internal healing, as well as what I have read about nausea and gas?

Any clarity is appreciated. Thank you.

I didn't have pain, nausea or gas. After the surgery I felt like I had a tight belt around my waste. The surgeon met with me just prior to surgery and advised me once awakened to take deep breaths and blow the excess air out. i dont know if that was the reason i didnt have gas, but i made sure to follow his instructions. no soreness or pain near incisions. I returned to work 3 weeks later because I wanted to make sure I had my eating , Vitamin and Water schedule solidified.

You'll still be fairly sore at 7 days. I am 3 weeks out now and feel pretty good. Just a bit of soreness between the last inscision and the drain area. I haven't been nausea at all, but my Dr. give me a script, that I filled and never used. I am taking nexium for the next 3 months, but have had now heartburn or gas. There is some discomfort right after surgery because the use air to pump up your adominal cavity. If you walk around some in the hospitatl, it will go away. Good Luck!

Everyone is a little different. I had my surgery the morning of 11/15 (a Thursday) and I was up and about Saturday and felt fine and worked a full day that Monday just 4 days later and never looked back, and never felt like I was overdoing it. My career is in IT so I was in and out of client offices and sitting at desks or driving most of the time, nothing heavy or involving lifting. Never had any nausea, any significant pain and the gas was gone within a few hours. Honestly I had more discomfort and more issues weeks after my vasectomy than I did 2 days after this. Of course YMMV but there are lot's of people on here that came through without any significant discomfort.

I never had any pain, naseau or vomiting. No problems drinking or eating. I'm 5 weeks out. I went to work 5 days after surgery. Of course I got fatigued by end of day but wasn't bad. Was lucky

I had bad nausea and threw up a few times 2 days post op. I'm now 4days post op and have terrible gas. But the nausea stopped. Never had any pain. I only have two incisions so I'm sure that helped but I was out of bed the next morning. I didn't get in my room until 630pm. And had nausea so I stayed put.

I will be thinking of you lets stay connected. I should only have a few incisions as well.

The staff had me up & walking the evening of my surgery (Dec 3rd - 9:30am, walking by 5:00 pm). I have not had any nausea or vomiting. No gas pains either. I'm surprised with how little discomfort I have felt. Just really at the site of my drain and that went away when the drain was removed. A little tenderness on the left side, so I just prop a pillow against my stomach when I sleep on my right side, same technique I used when I was pregnant. You will be fine, make sure you walk. I tried to move around every hour I was awake, even if just for 5 or 10 minutes. I think it makes a difference. Good luck, keep us posted

I just had my sleeve done on Wednesday (12/12) and didn't have any nausea. I did have gas and some it settled in my shoulders. The advice I got was to move around to let it work its way out. It is working its way out and improving. I expect it should be gone by tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
