From start to finish at the hospital?

Recommended Posts

Can someone describe their experience from the time they arrived at the hospital to the time they left? I'm approved sorta....I am waiting to see a new surgeon because I'm switching from getting a bypass to a sleeve and reality is setting in and I'm starting to freak. I've never been "put under".

I was never put under either and here i am 32 pounds ligther. I ws sleeved on 11/05/12 and I got to the hospital, filled out paperwork, went to the back to get changes and to get my vitals done. met with doctors to confirm what we were doing that day they went over every little detail and answered all my questions. the I was hooked up to the IV and was taken to the OR.

they told me to lay on the table the nurse grabed my hand and assured me she will be there taking care of me through out the whole thing and after that I was out.

I woke up in the recovery room in a bit of pain and I was hooked up to the morphine after that I was heaven becuase I didn't feel pain :)

I spend 2 days in the hospital alto of Iv's fluids, antiacids and pain killer as needed I walked I sipped (after the leak test of course) and of with me to my house all was well had no issues my expirience was great. I felt sore in the first 2 weeks but I've been feeling better every day after that.

Pretty much the same experience. I showed up, got weighed, the preop nurse was a bit of a ditz but cute so I just went with it. She had a hard time finding someplace for the IV. The anna-man came in an told a couple of jokes, hit me with the juice and off we went. The last thing I remember was turning right out of the preop room. The next thing, I came to in recovery. Didn't feel that bad, had the dilaudid for pain (most just for recreation). Had these pumped up boots on both legs to keep clots down. Got wheeled to the room, slept for a long time. Then the 3rd shift came in and kept me up all night doing things. I walked around, used the bathroom on my own etc. Watched a ton of sportscenter since they kept coming in. Next day did my sip sip sip. Saw the PA and the surgeon. Did a couple of breathing things for the respotherapist. Went home around 5:00p. Slept a lot that day. Had some script hydrocodone liquid (very nice). Just sore from the cuts, but other than that did fine.

Had never once spent any time in the hospital, had never had surgery. Only been under twice once for wisdom teeth and once for colonoscopy. You'll be fine

LMAO! Isn't that Dilaudid wonderful. I plan on asking my dr for that instead of Morphine.

Yeah I highly recommend it! Dr. told me, I was paying for it, might as well use it up. So I did big time!

And see if he'll give you the hydrocodone liquid. About 1 big tablespoon and it is party time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
