It's day two and I'm still in the hospital. I'm having trouble with liquids. I drink one table spoon of Water and I feel like I've swollowed a golf ball and it's ripping my stomach apart. Is anyone else experiencing that?

No sorry. But please feel better soon. Are your pain meds working? I was able to do more once Advil kicked in.

Wishing you the best,

Sannah

Your stomach is going to be really sensitive, just remember that :) I don't really remember much of my two days in the hospital, only how amazing it was when I got to have broth! Take tiny sips, less than a tablespoon if that makes you uncomfortable. If anything, talk to your hospital staff and make sure that everything's okay.

Yes. They kept me an extra day.. Sip sitting up and move around like walking. It helps. . They won't discharge you until you've taken in enough liquids. The IV is keeping you hydrated. You don't wanna have to come because of dehydration

I ate 2 tablespoons of Jello by day 2 in the hospital, took me around 4 hours. Tried Water but even small sips hurt. I would end up rinsing my mouth with the water instead of drinking it. To this day, I'm 18 days post op, water is an issue. Sip sip sip throughout the day. Even a little is better than nothing. Try warm liquid, try ice chips, try room temperature water. You'll find something you can tolerate best.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. After taking the pain meds I find it easier to swallow. Been trying to get fluids down before the meds wore out. Still just Water

- shakes are thick.

Hi, I'm on my second day post-op, was released yesterday. I'm having a lot of pain too. I've been experimenting though, trying to find the least irritating thing for my stomach, as SOME things make it feel much worse. About 5 minutes ago I found the first thing that even remotely went down comfortably: some yogurt that I barely warmed in the microwave (too hot and it will curdle really bad!). It just kind of coated, reducing the hot-lava in the stomach I've been feeling. I'm SO incredibly thankful at this moment! You'll find yours too, just be extremely patient, and go very slow. OH, and keep up on those pain meds! Being in a lot of pain makes it very difficult to keep sipping-

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
