What's going on with my fill?

Recommended Posts

Had my first fill October 17 (just over a week ago). Right after, it felt great. It was painful to swallow anything too big or fast. I got full pretty quick. The last couple days have been totally different. Last night I ate a big meal (didn't drink with it). I didn't have any swallowing trouble, and I was surprised at the volume I got down (a normal to bigger than average meal). Is this normal? Do I need another fill soon? Could the band have slipped already?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason, I had the same problem and my doctor told me that you're not going to have a lot of restriction with your 1st fill. It’s to develop the pouch, I guess. It's the second fill that should make a big difference. Trust me, I know that its frustrating because you want to feel the restriction right away! Good luck!

It most likely will take several fills before you feel restriction. My advice is to wait a couple of weeks before you schedule the next fill. Make sure you can and are eating too much. My fills hit me late 6-15 days after. Give your stomach a chance to adapt to the new size.

I also don't advocate aggressive fills. When they put a lot in at any given fill, I noticed more have trouble. We all want to get to that wonderful level of restriction fast, but slow and steady will probably do you better.

Patience Grasshopper! Thats to be expected. I'm sure you still had, (have) some swelling in that area. Give it a few weeks, then get another fill.

As long as your not gaining, and are still loosing. Being patient was my biggest problem too. It will work though if you just follow the plan.

I am at goal, fifteen months post op. and 200 pounds lost!

Your not alone, this is a new day for you and your body.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
