Recommended Posts

so i have read posts about when it is ok to drink alcohol post surgery but when do you need to stop pre surgery? with the holidays coming up and parties to go to, i don't want to mess anything up before surgery.

I wouldn't do it - in fact my surgery is Dec 27 and I haven't had any liquor for about a month. Had plenty of fun with my friends, so it can be done. Lime or lemon wedges do wonders to add a little color to juices or Water.< /p>

Good luck with your surgery.

I think everyone's diet is a little different. I was told to start my liquid diet 7 days prior to surgery. The surgery was 8 days after my surgery. With that said, I drank for my birthday and the next day I started the diet. My surgeon didn't have a problem with it. But then again, everyone is different, and so is everyone's diet.

No one told me not to drink - I just decided on my own. Never even discussed it with my doctor. Liver shrinkage was the main reason since alcohol is bad for the liver. But I take back my advice - everyone must make their own decisions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
