Bigger sips today...concerned

Recommended Posts

So I am 9 days post op and all of a sudden today i can take much bigger sips of Water. No gulping if course....an not like the pre sleeve days....but an obvious difference from this last week.

I am nervous that this is a sign my sleeve is bigger than i want.

Any advice?

I'm guessing this is a GOOD sign that your sleeves swelling is going down. Enjoy!

I guess I should be really freaked out then, because my sips are WAAAAY bigger and I'm only 6 days out.

I was sleeved 12/4. Saw my dr yesterday and he said all that will get easier over the first two weeks. I am the same way. Think it is what is supposed to be happening when you are healing.

Your swelling is going down. Don't worry, once you start eating normal food, you will definitely feel the restriction of the sleeve!

People, come back from the ledge. Do not freak out. First of all, size of your sleeve does not matter. You are the one who has to control what you eat from here on out. The sleeve will be like a helping hand, but not a crutch. Do not depend on it to do all the work by letting your feelings of fullness tell you when to stop eating or drinking. Your capacity will increase, and it will keep increasing for a while. One day a few months down the line you will wake up and be able to eat double what you could at 2 months out. That does not mean you should eat double. Measure your portions and learn to eat that and then stop eating. The idea is to eat till you're no longer hungry, not full. If you're like me, and you're not terribly good at recognizing that point then measure you're food and you can't go wrong.

If you're still on liquids then work to get in your Water but do not bloat yourself.

I do not believe I am on " the edge" of anything. I am a very educated, extremely smart person who researched the heck out of this before going through surgery. I am following the guidelines given to me by my doctor to the absolute T. I am not bloating myself or using my sleeve as a " crutch" for anything. I am, in fact, still in liquids so there really is not muh to fowl up. It is pretty simple and straight forward.

I simply asked a question about how something should feel or be at this point in my recovery. All the research in the world does not take the place of hearing from supporters (or people who are suppose to be supporters) that have been here and can just let me me know that something is normal or that I am on the right track.

For everyone that replied with something helpful....thank you.

Are you implying that those who told you what you wanted to hear are supporters and the rest of us aren't? Do you think I would waste my time replying if I didn't want to help? My ledge comment was tongue in cheek and wasn't entirely directed at you since others chimed in worrying about the same thing. And there have been many posts in the past worried about the same thing. Of course, since you know everything and did so much research, you already knew that.

It turns out I can GULP now, which I was terrified I'd never be able to do again. Not everyone can and beware swallowing air! But some people can tolerate larger quantities of Water.< /p>

My sense is you'd know if it was hurting you - the pain in your chest when you overdo it on this diet is pretty noticeable.

ouch butterthebean. A little harsh, eh?

I am 17 days out. Today I was drinking Water so much better. I feel good about that. I was nervous that last week that I was going to get dehydrated. I am finding the first couple of weeks many changes are going on.

I am not really sure what to say. I will certainly not be asking any more questions or for advice on this site.

It is not worth it to be spoken to like this.

I do wish everyone so much luck and great success on there journeys.

I didn't mean to be. The OP literally asked for advice and then got upset when I gave mine. She then played the "support" card which is silly, since she wasn't asking for support, but rather, information. I only try to help but I don't sugar coat. I would but I'm no good at it.

Please don't retreat over one person's response - the forum is way too friendly and useful for that. Hang in there...

I think old butterbean has a point the sleeve isn't a miracle worker on its own. I am four weeks out and if I want to eat more than I should I could and I can chose crappy food to eat also. But I have to make the choice not not. Liquids go down way easy.. When you get to food Proteins will really fill you up fast. But put a plate of mashed potatoes in front of me no telling how much I could get in !! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
