Officially Post-Op now

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery yesterday morning at 7:30am. So far it has been a trip. No complications or anything but I have been struggling with the pain meds... morphine knocks me out completely, as does the liquid vicodin... so I am not quite sure what I can take when I get home. I may just pick up some liquid tylenol and use my vicodin sparingly... mostly at night or when I'm with taking a nap.

Other than that I am up and walking around, contemplating a shower and they are thinking that I will be going home today.

The only annoying part???? They weighed me this morning and I gain 5lbs overnight. <_<

It's great to hear your doing good! From what I heard the weight gain after surgery is usually due to all the fluids they give you. Please Continue to keep us posted...you are the losers bench now:-)

Don't worry I was up too, keep in mind that Re pumping you with a TON of IV fluids, I've been home for a little less than 24 hours and have lost most of the Fluid retention I put on at hospital 10-13th. Chin up, if they let you take a shower you'll feel like a new person.

I'm doing well :) so far I'm down a total of 21 pounds since my surgery date and 33 lbs since I started with the consultation. I'm supposed to be on the soft food stage but I'm not even getting down enough fluids yet so I'm not pushing it especially since it's really uncomfortable to even eat 2 oz of soft pureed Soup. I feel good though, plenty of energy, minimal dizzy spells and getting down my Vitamins and sleeping when I'm tired. Everyone in my house currently has the stomach flu so I'm just trying my hardest not to catch that since it could very easily put me in the hospital.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
