I understand the gas pain, my doctor doesn't use drains. So I don't have one. I was sleeved on monday, I'm finally passing gas just started this morning, but I still have a ton of has in my abdomen, it will get better, hang in there. Give it a couple more days.

Sorry to hear you have so much pain. I got sleeved on the 4 and I had absolutely no pain. When I was at the hospital I only pressed my pain medication button 4 times and that's cause my doctor order me too. Lol. I'm just pain tolerant I guess who knows. Anyways, my coworker had the same procedure and like you had lots of pain. From what she says it slowly Subdues if you avoid moving too much and take your pain meds. Hope you feel better! And just remember the pain is all worth it. ????

If possible walk walk walk.... the first day was the worst for me as far as gas goes... I didn't even feel the drain. I tried the gasx strips and I don't think it really did anything for me. I litterally had my husband patting my back like a baby to help with the shoulder/back gas pains. Day two - PAIN FREE!!! So sorry you are hurting.... just hang in there.

Hi - I'm in the same boat as you. I was sleeved on Monday and had serious remorse yesterday due to all the pain due to gas/swelling. I haven't been able to get my fluids or Protein in and had a doom and gloom outlook. So many people have been supported and said to just sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk. While you are the middle of the pain it's hard to be positive, but I can assure you that from even yesterday to today I feel so much better. With so many positive outcomes you have to believe and have faith that you will look back on this next week and know it was only temporary and a necessary part of the journey. Chin up and hang in there. We'll all get through this together.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
