Nene16 0 Posted December 13, 2012 Hi Everyone, I'm 2 years post, but my acid reflux has not gone away. Lately, it is worse. My last endoscopy was about a year ago and all was normal. Today during my yearly visit, my doctor suggested getting the bypass which would reduce and/or eliminate the reflux. Has anyone had the same recommendation of the bypass as well? I'm not sure I want to go through surgery again. I would love any suggestion/comments and see who else is suffering with reflux? What meds are you on? Much appreciated fellow sleevers! AngelEyesInNJ 187 Posted December 13, 2012 Have you been taking meds for it? I wish I was able to help, I am only about 5 weeks out and my pcp gave me nexium to take as a preventative measure for my healing tummy but since I have been taking it I haven't had any reflux issues either. I hope you feel better without having to go to bypass
Procrastination Queen 0 Posted December 13, 2012 I was told by my doctor that if my acid reflux was really bad, that she wasn't going to be able to do the VSG on me. I had an upper GI prior to determining which one was going to work for me. After the results of the upper GI, she determined that mine wasn't that bad. But evidently this is an issue for some sleevers. Hopefully that's not your case.
Rhoragoldring 0 Posted December 18, 2012 HI, This is my first time posting after lurking for a few months. I'm 6 days post-op and am also having reflux at night and can't sleep lying down. Dr. mentioned bypass today, but i didn't understand what he was referring to. What does bypass mean in this context.

Dr. mentioned bypass today, but i didn't understand what he was referring to. What does bypass mean in this context. I had it bad for quiet a few days after surgery. Make sure your not drinking right before you lay down. It eventually went away for me. My pcp placed me on Nexium though to help with the acid since I was still early on she wanted me on it for a month. Are you taking anything for the reflux? mizzzliza 113 Posted December 18, 2012 My doc said about 50% of sleevers will have worse reflux after surgery and tried to talk me into bypass because I currently take Pepcid. I told him I believe weight loss in itself will help my heartburn (and it has) and I'm willing to risk it because I really don't want bypass. My endoscopy showed no Barrett's esophagus or any other damage from reflux so I'm comfortable in my choice. Do meds not work to control your symptoms after surgery? It seems a little drastic to me, to have additional wls just because of reflux.
