vonego82 36 Posted December 13, 2012 Hi Sleevers, I was sleeved on 9/7/12 a little over 3 months out. And I've been addicted to eating salads with low calorie dressings and crotuons. But Lately I've been noticing that I can eat about 8-10oz's of salad! now I don't know if that's normal or if I stretched it out, please help!! With everything else, I fill up with 3-4 bites. But with salads not. Help me Lovies!! Best wishes to everybody <
geno5150 168 Posted December 13, 2012 Is that 8 oz volume or 8 oz weight? 8 oz volume is normal- that should be right around a cup or so. The dressing is probably helping it slide through. There is zero chance you have stretched it out without extreme effort,so don't worry about that. 2 vonego82 and 920amy reacted to this
vonego82 36 Posted December 13, 2012 Hi and thankyou for your reply!! and I guess I meant 8 oz in volume. lettece weighs nothing really but I was simply worried.
920amy 409 Posted December 13, 2012 vonego, the other thing to remember about salads, is that they are really a lot of Water and air. If you take a huge salad and pack it down, you find a lot of the volume is just air between everything. Also, if you are eating lots of leafy greens, they contain lots of water, good Fiber too though! I would not worry about being able to eat a lot of salad. 1 vonego82 reacted to this
Mom2IrishTwins 63 Posted December 13, 2012 Is your surgeon cool with you eating salad? I have to wait 6 months for veggies.
OneWritersSoul 353 Posted December 13, 2012 My surgeon gave the green light on most veggies and salad at my one month post-op appointment and I was thrilled! The sad part? I can only eat about 4oz worth at a time! Some veggies are off limits, like broccoli, cauliflower and onions but I don't mind- and if I add a bit of low-fat/low-sodium Protein it's so yummy. Still, it's rather odd not to be able more when before surgery I could easily polish off a HUGE salad. As long as you're not drowning it in dressing and other fattening stuff, I'd not worry about the amount.
vonego82 36 Posted December 13, 2012 Is your surgeon cool with you eating salad? I have to wait 6 months for veggies. I was told to wait 10 weeks post-op until I was able to eat salad. But I can only eat iceberg lettuce and none other. It has to be crunchy! and on veggies, I can handle almost everything now, except broccoli and tomato's. And I tend to eat my salads almost plain (ceasar way) only because I can't eat meat yet. Thanks for your input.

[/quote'] haha, Thankyou! and you're right, I myself cannot eat broccoli, tomato's, cauliflower, I feel like I'm choking. I was worried about it because this is my first time being in a stall. and it was when began eating and experimenting with salads. :/
Mom2IrishTwins 63 Posted December 13, 2012 Mmmmm. I was sleeved 9/11 so close to you. Cannot WAIT for a nice salad!!
NJSleeveboy 212 Posted December 19, 2012 Funny. I wish I felt those restrictions. I can eat a huge salad from anywhere, no problem. The good news is that they are now always healthy choices (lean Protein and low calorie dressings in small amts).. However, I can't complain, as it does tend to fill me up and would never have come close in my old life... Still. no worries. 1 vonego82 reacted to this
CathyA72 47 Posted December 19, 2012 Maybe you should stay away from the salads. Sounds like your not getting enough protien with chicken turkey and fish. Good luck. Hope it works well for you. You will figure it out
Julieann87 19 Posted December 19, 2012 My doctor told me to stay away from salad no nutritional value and it doesn't fill you up. Good luck!!
Donny 270 Posted December 19, 2012 I thought I'd be healthy for lunch the other week and order a salad at subway. I ate the chicken then I was full and had to throw the rest away. I stick every strictly to Protein first, then mess with the rabbit food!
