Am I eating too much!?

Recommended Posts

Hi Sleevers,

I was sleeved on 9/7/12 a little over 3 months out. And I've been addicted to eating salads with low calorie dressings and crotuons. But Lately I've been noticing that I can eat about 8-10oz's of salad! now I don't know if that's normal or if I stretched it out, please help!! With everything else, I fill up with 3-4 bites. But with salads not. Help me Lovies!!

Best wishes to everybody

<3

Is that 8 oz volume or 8 oz weight? 8 oz volume is normal- that should be right around a cup or so. The dressing is probably helping it slide through.

There is zero chance you have stretched it out without extreme effort,so don't worry about that.

vonego, the other thing to remember about salads, is that they are really a lot of Water and air. If you take a huge salad and pack it down, you find a lot of the volume is just air between everything. Also, if you are eating lots of leafy greens, they contain lots of water, good Fiber too though! I would not worry about being able to eat a lot of salad.

Is your surgeon cool with you eating salad? I have to wait 6 months for veggies.

My surgeon gave the green light on most veggies and salad at my one month post-op appointment and I was thrilled! The sad part? I can only eat about 4oz worth at a time! Some veggies are off limits, like broccoli, cauliflower and onions but I don't mind- and if I add a bit of low-fat/low-sodium Protein it's so yummy. Still, it's rather odd not to be able more when before surgery I could easily polish off a HUGE salad. As long as you're not drowning it in dressing and other fattening stuff, I'd not worry about the amount. :)

I was told to wait 10 weeks post-op until I was able to eat salad. But I can only eat iceberg lettuce and none other. It has to be crunchy! and on veggies, I can handle almost everything now, except broccoli and tomato's.

And I tend to eat my salads almost plain (ceasar way) only because I can't eat meat yet. Thanks for your input.

haha, Thankyou!

and you're right, I myself cannot eat broccoli, tomato's, cauliflower, I feel like I'm choking. I was worried about it because this is my first time being in a stall. and it was when began eating and experimenting with salads. :/

Funny. I wish I felt those restrictions. I can eat a huge salad from anywhere, no problem. The good news is that they are now always healthy choices (lean Protein and low calorie dressings in small amts).. However, I can't complain, as it does tend to fill me up and would never have come close in my old life... Still. no worries.

Maybe you should stay away from the salads. Sounds like your not getting enough protien with chicken turkey and fish. Good luck. Hope it works well for you. You will figure it out

My doctor told me to stay away from salad no nutritional value and it doesn't fill you up. Good luck!!

I thought I'd be healthy for lunch the other week and order a salad at subway. I ate the chicken then I was full and had to throw the rest away. I stick every strictly to Protein first, then mess with the rabbit food!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
