want2live 29 Posted December 13, 2012 I am 8 days post op and doing really good (at least I think). I am getting 60grams of Protein a day and about 40 ounces of Water (working on that) and maybe 4-5 spoons of broth. So.....when I see others who have lost 15-20 pounds the first week I am so happy for them....but disappointed in me. I have only lost 7 pounds since surgery (20 pounds including pre op diet)....am I doing something wrong?
theoldmusicbox 399 Posted December 13, 2012 Yep. You are comparing yourself to others. While we all have similar experience, we all experience it differently. Keep your head up. I only lost 10 my first week, but I've lost almost 160 since April this year. We're all different, comparing is not fair to yourself. Enjoy your own journey. 2 Butterthebean and kimbernada reacted to this
Beckyyb93 225 Posted December 13, 2012 Also, when people say they lost 20 lbs in the first week they are generally counting their pre-op so keep that in mind. So, as far as most people count you've lost 27 lbs your first week and are ahead of the game!

Mostly the ones with a high Bmi Sent from my iPhone using VST
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted December 13, 2012 What you lose in the first week has almost nothing to do with fat loss so why worry about it?
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted December 13, 2012 Why not replace the broth with Water? You need the water way more than the broth at this point. Once you get your water intake up to the minimum then you could start having the broth again. But bottom line, until you get your water intake up everything else should take a back seat. want2live 29 Posted December 13, 2012 So should I cut out 1 Protein Shake a day for a few days?
RobbiesGirl 14 Posted December 13, 2012 I just had my 1 week post op visit (12/5/12 sleeve) and like you I lost 10 pounds exactly. At first I was ... What?? Only 10 pounds?? But then I thought .. That 10 pounds is gone forever!! As far as what you are taking in, my doctor told me, in this order .. Protein (40 to 60 gms ), Water - as much as possible. Aim for or build up to 64 oz., and Gummy Vitamins. That is my orders for the next 3 weeks . Oh and I can start walking. Keep your chin up. We got this. want2live 29 Posted December 13, 2012 Thank you Robbies Girl!!! Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for your advice too butterbean! The 4-5 spoons (and I am talking my 5 yr olds child spoons) of broth are a needed break once a day from Water and chocolate Protein shake!!!!
SleeveNZ 219 Posted December 13, 2012 They probably just ate a lot worse than you did pre-sleeve
susanfaye 162 Posted December 13, 2012 It took me 2 full weeks to show a "loss" because of all the fluids from the surgery. Once that was resolved I started to see great results. Be patient with yourself and don't compare yourself to others is the best advice I could give. You are doing great!
lollyfidy1965 402 Posted December 13, 2012 Keep in mind, anything that you're consuming that is liquid counts towards your total Fluid intake...not just the Water you drink. If you're drinking Protein Shakes you're killing two birds with one stone.
want2live 29 Posted December 13, 2012 Thank you all! Yes.....I am getting Protein through shakes as I am still on all liquids. I always wondered if any liquid counted.....so if that is the case I am getting a total of about 60 ounces a day. I will certainly continue to increase Water everyday. Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to reply. This site is such a blessing!
