Protein shakes... Help!

Recommended Posts

I tell everyone about the one that I use. Its wheybolic 60 by GNC.

It dissolves relatively easy. Doesn’t have that gritty weird feeling, nor does it tastes like crap. I had a little extract and use Light vanilla soy milk and to me it tastes like cake batter.

For powder I use Optimum Nutrition. For pre-made shakes I really like the EAS brand. They are low carb/high Protein, very tasty and affordable. I prefer the chocolate fudge flavor.

I use Unjury Protein - I love the chocolate I add milk and warm it up and taste like hot cocoa and also the vanilla is great! I normally put some ice in a blender with a scoop of vanilla ( you could use the choc also), cup of lactose fat free milk and add a teaspoon of instant caffeine free coffee blend it up and yummers!

There is a thread that rates the Protein shakes from Excellent to Terrible on this forum with a sticky at the top of the Protein Powder page. I love Optimum Gold Standard Mocha Cappuccino, tastes like Starbucks..yum! I have to second nectar as well, the fuzzy naval is what you should go with from them. Get a variety of flavors so you aren't stuck with sicky sweet flavors for 6 weeks. I got 2 sweets (Optimum Mocha Cappuccino & Lean Dessert chocolate Coconut) 1 fruity (Nectar Fuzzy Naval) 1 salty (Unjury Cicken Broth) and 1 unflavored (Unjury Unflavored) to put in Jello and pudding and Soup. Good luck!

Oh and you can get them online, I used AllStarHealth.com for everything except my Lean Dessert because they didn't have the chocolate coconut flavor.

I really like the Syntrax Nectar flavors: chocolate Truffle, strawberry Mousse, Vanilla Bean Torte. I didn't care for their other fruit-like flavors. I also recently found that I like the Fit Frappe Mocha Protein Powder (mixed with water). A good unflavored powder that I use is from Isopure. I like to mix a scoop of the unflavored with a scoop of the Fit Frappe for a good 30-ish grams of Protein Shake.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
