Three Unexpected Surprises Today!

Recommended Posts

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. I am down 36 or 37 pounds. My boyfriend said that he can really notice a difference in my face, but I haven't noticed anything myself. I haven't left my apartment since surgery & have limited my wardrobe to pajama or yoga pants. Today I decided to venture out because my puppy ran out of treats last night. I decided to make myself presentable for the general public. That's when I got not 1 but 3 surprises. Surprise #1 my jeans were loose at the waste! I had to roll them at the waist once so they wouldn't fall down. :) Surprise #2 I put on my shoes & THEY were loose! I didn't realize that my feet had gotten fat too! :) I got to my car & that was where I got Surprise #3. I usually have my car seat moved all the way back so that I can fit in the seat belt & not have the steering wheel sticking in my stomach. I can always tell when my boyfriend has used my car because when I get in I am all smooshed up & have to readjust the seat & the wheel. Today when I got in I could tell that he had used my car, but I only needed to move the seat back about 2 inches. :) I am officially shrinking! The scale hasn't moved in the past few days so, I really needed today. What a great day of surprises. I look forward to many more to come!

Thanks! It does make me feel like I want to get out of the house more. I am only 2 weeks post-op & am limited at the gym. My gym does have an indoor track, though. I live in upstate NY & the weather is too cold for outside walking. Seeing the progress I have made in such a short time without exercise makes me want to move!

Well keep it moving. If you are familiar with Leslie Sansone, she has some awesome DVD's where you "walk" in the house. Some of them are 3 and 4 miles long and trust me, they give you a great workout. I purchased mine from a friend but Amazon and Walmart sell them.

Keep up the good work and once I have my surgery I will be sure to look for you for some inspiration!

Thanks for the tip. When is your surgery?

To the OP you mentioned that you have a puppy. Well your puppy needs to go for a walk EVERY day. You should put this into your daily routine: you need to bundle up and dress for the weather, it was 36 degrees where I live and I just bundle up and go!! You will start to enjoy it and your puppy will for sure too!!

Congrats! Wait till your wedding band falls off your finger. I literally stepped out of my shoe one day. So much better than trying to find a pair of pants that's big wnough isn't it?

Definitely much better than struggling to find a pair pants that is big enough. That's funny that you stepped out of your shoe. lol. I can't wait to get back to wearing high heels. As far as a wedding band, I don't have one. I've been with my bf 6 years, and I still haven't given up hope for that shiny stone. Maybe by the time I'm at a healthy weight. ;)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
