I'm on day one of my pre-op liquid diet. Surgery is 12/26 so I have 2 full weeks to go. I am really struggling with the Protein Shakes. I've tried so many and don't really like any of them. Do any of you have any advice? Maybe I can get by with just Water, SF Jello and SF popsicles? I know I should get Protein in but I absolutely gag on the protein shakes.< /p>

Hi! I have finally found 2 protein powders that I actually LOVE. I actually look forward to them....

nectar chocolate Truffle (my fave)

ABOUT TIME Birthday Cake

I initially was buying RTD shakes-- my favorite of those were Atkins. But I doctored them up with a little Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, low carb milk, ice...and I put them in the blender. Once I tried the nectar choc truffle I haven't had any of the RTDs. The Nectar choc truffle is awesome....

I put 3/4 scoop ( 1 scoop is normal serving), 2 tablespoons cottage cheese, 3 or 4 ice cubes and 6oz of low carb Hood milk. It takes just like chocolate milk -- actually I like it better than chocolate milk because the real stuff is waaay too thick.... You can also add a tablespoon of sugar free pudding powder... it ends up being around 175-200 calories.

Easy easy to drink, at least it is before surgery. My surgery is on the 21st.... I'm hoping that it still tastes as good after surgery as it does now.

By the way, you can buy the Nectar on Amazon...

~Dana

I loved the Unjury chocolate. Also my doctor also sells flavored Protein Water. Unjury also makes an unflavored protein that you can put in juice or crystal lite. They also make a darn good chicken broth. Remember all this stuff isn't going to taste like cake and ice cream.

I really liked Unjury chocolate Splendor too... but couldn't tolerate it after surgery. I switched to Pure Protein Bars.

I did vanilla, Dutch chocolate and banana. All good. Tried the pineapple, Orange banana and I don't care for it at all.

You can order many many different kinds of sample packs $1.95 each of basically all of the popular brands/flavors at Nashua Nutrition. This was a god send after buying a 2lb tub and hating it!!! Ironically I liked certain flavors brands before surgery and cannot tolerate them after! (Bariatric advantage after is WAY too thick) Syntrax has been my go to since surgery (chocolate truffle, chocolate mint, vanilla bean torte = yummy to me)

Hope that helps

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
