Is my throat broken or am i eating too fast?

Recommended Posts

I'm 26 days post op and I feel like everything is getting stuck in my throat. I and on the soft food stage and I am eating eggs, grits, mashed potatoes and things like that. But, it feels like food move extremely slow through my throat and it gets stuck at the end. I know we are not supposed to eat and drink at the same time but sometime one sip will move the food through. What am I doing wrong?

You may be taking too bigger bites, use a baby spoon to solve that problem.

I found a perfect fork for us to take smaller bites at Pier One. The fork has a normal handle for leverage and balance. It also has a tiny prong area for the food. It can probably only hold a tsp of food at a time. I bought 8 in order to have plenty available throughout the week without having to be constantly washing them.

Agreed, small bites and make sure you are chewing each bite enough. My dr told me to chew until the food was baby food consistancy. He also said shoot for bites the size of a pencil eraser. Try to avoid those drinks!! good luck!!!

Thank you all for the help. I know I have to break a lot of old habits in this process. So far so good with slowing down and taking smaller bites.
