3 months ago this was not part of my plans. I was dealing with obesity but was working it with a therapist for the past 5-6 months, and i was getting very depressed bc i was not going nowhere with therapy or with my diet.

One day, my girfriend said she was going to Mexico to have the VSG done and i said me too. Crazy i know, but im the type of person who either acts right away or stays paralyzed for ever.

I went to mexico to have surgery since it was self-pay. Did my reserach. I wanted to be at a hospital in case of an emergency. I was expecting the worse pain for what i had read around.

To my surprice my surgery, to this day, has gone great. No pain. Only discomfort. I was very well taken care off. I stayed 3 nights at the hospital in a very nice private room just for me.

The liquid diet was hard those days bc i didnt like their teas or juices. I loved having broth on the last 2 days.

I stayed then two more nights in a gorgeous hotel and then came back to Florida.

One thing ive noticed is the mood swings. One hour im happy with energy and the next i dont feel like talking or being around anyone. I also came with very little tolerance for stupidy and get so angry and sensitive over the silliest things.

Im happy this opportunity came to me. If it wasnt for my friend, today i pobably would be either binging and feeling sorry for myself, or hungry thinking about food all day.

Im on the liquids stage. I get full really quick and sometimes the feeling isn't nice. I look forward to start purees but at the same time i want to get the most i can from the liquids stage. Dr suggested 2 weeks but said i could do 4. Who knows if i will want to.

I feel very blessed. Thank you Jesus!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
