Alcohol over Xmas 1 week post op?

Recommended Posts

Big mistake.

The holidays will come again many times, you only have one shot at a nice easy recovery, don't risk it.

I had my first sip of wine at 4 months post op and it burned. I couldn't finish more then maybe 1-2 oz and had an acidy tummy for my trouble. By 6-7 months out I could enjoy small tastes of social drinking just fine, but I didn't lose 133# in a year by partaking frequently.... I view this first year or two post op as my big chance and passed by many many eating/drinking opportunities to meet my goals.

Yikes!!! Don't do it! I don't think your body will feel up to it. But now is the time you have got to be mentally tough. Just because You can doesn't mean you should. If you start cutting corners right away it sets you up to accept failure!

You got this!

Treat yourself to 3/4 cup Water 1/4 cup diet cranberry over crushed ice with a lime.

That is festive

Your question to me raises several other questions... such as... has your Dr. not given you any post surgery guidelines to follow? If so' date=' have you not read them? or do you just not believe them? Was there no class that you had to addend that talks about post op care and nutrition? Because I know personally that the answer for me would have been clear with everything that I received and was told from my Dr's office. If your Dr did not provide such basic information then I would seriously question having them do the surgery. I personally want a Dr who cares about my success. If the answer is that you received the information but felt that a drink is that important over the "holiday season" that you would want to go against his orders, then I seriously question if you are ready for the surgery. If a drink 1 week post op is important, then will a few pieces of candy sound appealing and resonable at week 3? I hope you take some time to consider these things before your surgery later this month. We all want you to be successful... just as we have been successful... but you need to be prepared for this change in your life and understand the changes that you will need to make to make it a success.[/quote']

Well said....

Is it really that important to you? There will be other Christmas's and birthdays, and thanksgivings, and and and. . . alcohol is like pizza, it's always around. Is it really going to kill you not have a drink 1 week after your most important life changing surgery? However, the choice is still yours to make. Good luck

I was sleeved Monday' date=' so today is day 3 healing. Trust me, the pain and nausea you go through, you will not even begin to kick around the idea of alcohol. I say take you pain meds and carry a champagne glass of Water around. You'll be giddy from not feeling pain and can sip the Water and no one will be the wiser[/quote']

LOVE that idea!

Do you think it will be possible to have a little alcohol over the holiday period. I have my op on the 19 Dec.

Try it and believe me you won't have to be a spoil sport because you won't be there. You will be in the bathroom puking. For the rest of the day.

I can just remember how fragile I felt my like my new tummy was. It had been mutilated. Dramatic way to word it, but just think about all of that freshly traumatized and raw tissue, swollen..inflamed. How the first few weeks were so critical to healing and my surgeon terrified me by saying that serious complications and death were possible results of me making really bad choices.

Now think about what it would feel like to pour alcohol on a raw, fragile wound that had only just begun to go down in swelling and attempt to heal itself. A little alcohol may help to clean and disinfect a small scratch or minor cut, but for a deep intestinal...well, wound, what might happen?

Irregular healing? Additional, unforeseen complications? Additional irritation? I'm not a doctor and I really don't know, but I wouldn't ever risk it so early out.

I did have some wine at 5 weeks. I didn't even finish the glass and it took me about 2 hours to drink what I did. It gave me really bad indigestion.

Absolutely NOT!!!!!!! Water was uncomfortable going down! I had a very easy recovery, no nausea, discomfort, but not pain. I can't even fathom the idea of alchohol.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
