Dr. A Ortiz on Monday! Better Late than never!

Recommended Posts

This is my first time (I think) posting. Is anyone going to be sleeved by Dr. Ariel Ortiz next Monday-yikes!! December 17??

I'm going alone and as I "try" to rest my mind and sleep, I find myself combing through some posts. So far- I haven't been able to find a single sleeve sister or brother to share in this journey. I'll be arriving Monday a.m and returning on the 20th. Staying at the Marriott. Does anyone know if other hospitals put their patients up at the Marriott as well? Would love to know!

Hoosiergirl~ me too!!

I'm a bit, ok, a lotta bit...nervous! I wish I knew of someone to go through this with me.But if ever there is a bonding experience- this is it! Thanks Bye Bye for letting me know I may be in encouraging company at the Marriott.

I keep telling myself that I'll be fine and don't want anyone (family, bf, & my own self!) to make me question for a moment,, my resolution to change my life.

Bring it on!

Sunshinegurl - you are going to do GREAT. Don't let your nerves get the best of you....just remember all the reasons this surgery is RIGHT for you and what got you to this point.

You are going to rock this surgery and have fantastic results!!! This time next week, you will be heading home and everyone (me included) will be coming to you for advice and watching your success.....BRING IT ON!!!!

I went alone to dr Ortiz too. I felt the same way as you, but I met some wonderful people and we bonded and month later we still email. Truth is (at least for me) the two days after the fact were miserable and I was actually quite lonely, but also really happy to just be miserable without anyone watching me go through it, if that makes sense. So, while the day after surgery I regretted going it alone, by Friday when I went home, I was glad I went solo.

Good luck and you will do great!

I went alone to Dr Ortiz too. I agree with an earlier poster that I would not like to feel the need to entertain a companion or have them watch me sleep and rest.

You will meet others and can socialize when you feel like it.

You are I. Good hands with Dr O and his team.

Mckate,

Thanks for the feedback. It's great to know your experience. It has been hard on my mom (since I only told her 2 weeks prior) she didn't have enough time to get a passport. I also echo what you said, that I don't want my mom to be bored, uncomfortable, feel helpless, etc. I'm a big girl, and although I may cry out for my mom...it will be in the privacy of my own room! Heck, I almost didn't tell her- I was afraid of a negative response. As it is, she will be taking me to the "pick-up" location on Monday morning bright & early & picking me up on Wednesday. All, while being about 25 miles away from the Mexico border! You made me feel better.

Bayareanan,

I love hearing the brave women who have traveled in my "future shoes". Thanks. Especially the part that says I am in good hands. I have so much to GAIN -- by losing (weight).... But if I'm not in good hands, there are so many LOSING.

For one, I felt like this is the most selfish thing I could do~ after all, I am a single mom.

But you know what? I'm doing it for me, my future, my ability to care for my child with special needs. I'm a spontaneous gal anyway, but I had this figured out quick. It's the one week where I won't have my child (she'll be on vacation with her father). I can focus on me & my healing process. Definitely less tortery than sitting around worried sick. Humm? Maybe I just "got" why my mom is acting the way she is : /

Thanks for the encouragement... I appreciate it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
