softwsolu1 8 Posted December 12, 2012 I've been sleeved for nearly a full month. Everybody's experience is different, but I did not have pain drinking Water. I did experience some nausea and it wasn't easy to drink - for me it was as if I'd had the stomach flu, and so my stomach was inflamed and sore. Mostly, day one was lots of pain and thirst - you can't drink until they test you for leaks the next day, so I was really dry and thirsty. A nurse was kind enough to give me a foam swab to moisten my mouth a bit, and I was on dilaudid for the pain. These got me through a very painful day one. But I was up and walking within 6 hours of the surgery, albeit very very slowly. Expect the first week to be just awful. It's not as bad as all that but better to over-anticipate your unpleasantness and be pleasantly surprised. After that it's a slow climb back. At almost 4 weeks, I feel very tired and still sore, but I'm nearly back to my old self.
dadici 21 Posted December 12, 2012 People react differently. I was super restless after waking up, and very gassy. My stomach felt like 2 days after a killer ab workout. For me personally I never got to "pain" , mine was always very achy. The worst part for me was the no drinking after surgery, I was doing my level best to eat the sponge lollipop things because my mouth was so freaking dry! Susie in Lima 320 Posted December 12, 2012 It really isn't horrible. At least for me, the gas pain was the worst part of it so if you go in knowing that, you can put the pain into perspective. I brought some GasX strips with me and that helped alot. The incisions never really caused me any problems or hurt like I thought they would. I was a little nauseated while in the hospital the 2nd day but it was probably from the anesthesia. The first few times I drank, it did hurt a little but nothing that lasts and it isnt excruciating, just uncomfortable. Dont worry, it isnt a cake walk, but it isnt as bad as other surgeries I have had and I have had wonderful results. Almost 50 pounds down since Sept 11. Stick with your diet and dont cheat, you will do great! 1 MonicaR reacted to this
Susie in Lima 320 Posted December 12, 2012 I went and read the two posts above me about the dryness of the mouth after surgery. I had been told to bring some biotene mouth spray and that really helped me keep my mouth moist. It was a life saver! 2 softwsolu1 and MonicaR reacted to this
KRB829 47 Posted December 12, 2012 Awww, I'm sorry that you guys had some pain and discomfort, because I didn't. I was up and walking once I woke up. I was in the hospital for three days due to my Diabetes and I was on a clear liquid diet in the hospital. I eat popsicles and chicken broth with chicken flavored Unjury Protein mixed in the broth. I didn't take any pain medications, I was very nauseated and dizzy for two months, but I wore medication Patches behind my ear for that. I did have a dry mouth as well and I used Biotene too. I just took my time with eating and drinking. And when I wasn't resting I was walking all around my house, so I wouldn't form blood clots. I had to crush my medications and I did put it in applesauce in order to get them down, but other then that I was great! I am down 96lbs and my surgery was 3 months ago. So know that it is worth it. Pray when you feel any type of discomfort or pain, when you can't drink, suck on a popsicle. I craved Lemonade Minute Maid Light with two Splendas and unflavored unjury Protein Powder and I put it in the Ninja with ice and it turned into a slush and I just sipped on it with a spoon. But even thing will turn out great! and good luck:)
Sannah 258 Posted December 12, 2012 I get sleeved on 12-17-12. Does anybody know what it feels like right after? I keep hearing it hurts to drink Water. Just wanna know what that is going to be like?? Hello!! I was sleeved dec 5th. For me the pain wasn't that bad.y appendix and vaginal birth were much worse. I used narcotics in the hospital, but Advil and Tylenol at home and often I forgot to take it. Something no one told me pre op was that post op you have to use your upper body more to make up for the compromised abs. I have strained my back. So if you have time I would work on back muscles to prepare. The gas pain was also not so terrible. I thought it would be miserable, but it wasn't too bad. Wishing you the best!! newgirltx 41 Posted December 12, 2012 I get sleeved on 12-17-12. Does anybody know what it feels like right after? I keep hearing it hurts to drink Water. Just wanna know what that is going to be like?? I had my sleeve done two days ago and I feel really good. Actually much better than I thought I would. When I woke up my mouth was dry and the pain meds from surgery were still working. The only problem was rolling onto my side to get out of bed. Now I can get up no problem. You will be able to figure out the swallowing yourself just by feel. You know the feeling when before surgery you take a huge bite and it hurts going down? That's what a normal size sip feels like after. For me at least.
