Day 1 of 10 on liquid diet..... where are my fog lights?

Recommended Posts

Hello! My timeline went from 0 to 100 yesterday. I was approved 12/10- scheduled for surgery 12/21 & started my liquids today. My head is still spinning!

I am really loopy & hungry. Does the mental fog get better? Any tips on what people did to ease the hunger? (besides eating what I shouldn't!) AND- do you add any flavors, vanilla, peppermint extract etc?

I'm new to the site, but have learned a great deal from everyone! This is my first post- hope I am in the right spot!

Thanks.

Yes it gets better, days 3 and 4 are the worst and then it quickly gets better. Pre-op clear is no fun but I was able to get by on lots of tea and coffee, crystal light and sugar free Hawaiian Punch along with lots of Jello and Popsicle.

I just sleeved last week and the 10-day diet was really rough on me. Lost a LOT of weight though. Near the end of it I discovered that Subway will make any foot long into a salad. I got a grilled chicken breast with spinach, sweet peppers, tomatoes and so on then had them put my favorite dressing on and they chop it up. It was incredible and VERY filling. Also try making veg Soup with your favorite, allowed, canned veggies, beef broth and a small can of Tomato paste. Quick, cheap, simple and filling. These things saved me. Good luck and let me know of I can help more. Rick

Thank you! I'm better- on Day 6 & less of a blithering idiot. Just tired- but nothing that can't be handled. I've found that low carb slim fast helps a lot & I eat every 2 hours. keeps the pangs away.

Best of luck to ya'll!

The first few days of low-carb are really rough because you're in withdrawal, and that made me pretty loopy - lots of headaches, hard to focus or think, distracted, STARVING, grouchy, the works. It got better after the first few days, and the more Protein I could squeeze in the better. I also found blending an Atkins shake with ice cubes increased the volume, and made it both more palatable and more satisfying. Part of it was mental, it just seemed like more, part of it was surely all the air in my tummy, but hey, it worked :-)

Also, lots of tea and other warm beverages got me past cravings. I like the sugar free instant cider (but watch the carbs!), and I also make a sugar free "russian tea" kind of thing - crystal light orange, sugar free instant lemon / tea combo, plus cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
