Having a hospital Christmas.

Recommended Posts

Looks like I'll be in here until Christmas at least. Woo. This surgery has so far proven to be the biggest mistake I've made in my 25 years of life.

I am sorry for the problems you are having, I hope all is figured out and you are on the road to recovery very quickly. Sending prayers your way and hopefully in the end your opinion of having this surgery will change and it will be the best thing you have done. :}

I had my surgery on the 19th. Came to the ER with chest pains, they diagnosed costochondritis and sent me home. Came back 11 days ago and they did a CT scan, saw an abscess and they admitted me. Had emergency exploratory surgery to see what caused them and drain the leak. It wasn't until yesterday they found a leak. I'm on strict NPO, and TPN (have been since admitted) and will be for at least a minimum of two more weeks. Then they'll do another barium swallow and check the leak's progress. Then discuss a stint. Have a drain, had an ng tube, etc. Even with my comorbidites it wasn't worth this.

Liz

I know it's rough..I spent 12 days in the hospital for my leak. I spent Thanksgiving in the hospital on TPN.. it wasn't fun. I felt the same way you do, that the surgery wasn't worth it. Two weeks later my attitude has changed. While I don't regret the surgery anymore I just wish I had a better outcome. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

I just wanted to come by again and thank all of you for your kindness when I needed it most. I'm not yet on the "I'd do it again" bandwagon but my attitude is much improved :)

Thanks you guys, it really meant/ means so much :)

I still have a few random issues with esophageal spasms and soreness where my drain was but other than that I'm fine. And of course, I'm a slow loser haha. But I'll take it! -57lbs. Actually just a few minutes ago I was trying on some clothes before I sent them to Goodwill. I actually fit in the dress I wore to my high school graduation. :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
