rass21 8 Posted December 11, 2012 Just wanted to give an update. My surgery was on nov. 20th. They kept me an extra night because i had really bad gas pain and wouldn't let me have any fluids until the pain subsided. I went home on thanksgiving morning. Wow, what a weird thanksgiving that was for me and my family My weight loss was going great, about a pound a day for about 10 days, then suddenly it stopped. For about the next 2 weeks the scale didn't move. It actually went up a pound. I started obsessing and would weigh myself multiple times a day. I had a break down yesterday and cried to my fiancé. I told him to hide the scale from me and to only let me weigh myself once a week. I am trying to now focus on how I feel, how my clothes fit, and making sure I'm following my nutrition plan. I've also realized that this new life is more mental than not. Telling myself that I'm not hungry, making sure I don't eat things I'm not supposed to, knowing that if I have. "one more bite" that I'll feel like crap for a while. Anyone else have any struggles/ suggestions/ tips for people who were recently sleeved? Also, I know that stall are all part of the "journey" but what doesn't make sense to me is how I'm only taking in 600 calories a day and not losing any weight, where is my body getting the calories to function? Anyway, there's my rant. Any advice is always appreciated, love hearing from you!!! 1 mrs.thang reacted to this
karen_golfs 11 Posted December 11, 2012 Are you getting enough Protein? 60 grams a day should be about normal. If not enough protein is consumed, the body goes into survival mode and no weight loss occurs. Talk to your dietician.
Jugee44 9 Posted December 11, 2012 I am feeling exactly like you , I had my surgery Nov 13 , 2012 .... all was going great, My start weight was 237 lbs , I lost 15 lbs on my pre op . At the day of the surgery I was 222 , the first week I lost 7 lbs ( excited ) but for the past 2 weeks Nothing ! the scale doesnt move an Inch .... I got on the scale today and it says 207 lbs , but I dont even trust it anymore. On my 2 week check up , My scale said 210 lbs but at my doctor's office I was 216 ... I am doing everything I am suppose to , the only thing that I have to start doing is excercise. The one thing that I have to tell you is that , although the scale has not moved much in the last 2 weeks ,,, I can feel myself shrinking inches , my clothes are for sure getting bigger I use to wear size 20 pants and 2x tops ....... This weekend I went to old navy and I bought a size xxL button down shirt and couple of sweaters that fit me great , before I could not fit into then. I also have some pants that were so tight on me that they use to leave that ring around red scars around my waist ..... now those pants are so loose and I can even fit into some 16 if they stretch. I also try not to weight myself as much as before. So , dont stress yourself so much by the numbers on the scale .... you might just be loosing inches right now ,,, I am sure that both you and me will start to see that weight come off as soon as everything that is happening in our bodies catches up ..... just try to stick with the things that you should be doing . Good luck
imaginemeskinny 29 Posted December 11, 2012 I am in the same spot! I was sleeved November 19th starting weight 279.6, day of surgery 267, and 2-week post op 243.8. I haven't lost anything since Friday, November 30th. I too am noticing crazy inches falling off which I love! Trying to weigh only once or twice a week. Hoping this stall breaks soon! partofme! 36 Posted December 11, 2012 I was sleeved on the 21st and have lost 20 lbs, and stalled for the the last few days. However, I know this is my fault. I nibbled on sugary treats when I was baking: I also indulged in a birthday drink. We need the Protein to keep the body going-track your Protein on MFP!!! It will really help you put things in perspective. I am eating a tonne of protein and find shrimp, plain yogurt and cottage cheese go down well-I cant do eggs yet or chicken-feel like i have a lump in my throat Also, it could be dehydration-I know I have been battling to keep myself hydrated because you cant drink 15 mins before meals and 1/2 hour after... I get busy and forget. I now weigh myself every Wed-weight goes up and down!!! Don't worry-please try tracking cals and especially protein bc if you are not drinking Protein shakes quite a bit or eating chicken, Ibet you are not getting your 60-70g per day

Still on my clear liquid diet 5th day post-op, no change in 2 days. I think its also because we are comparing ourselves with people who lose more and quicker but they started at a heavier weight. We must be patient lol! Stress is not going to help thats for sure. Ginny
mopsiee 2 Posted December 11, 2012 This is similar to me. I was sleeved on Nov. 30th. Day of surgery I was 251 ( started the journey at 277 but lost 26lbs on the pre-op diet). One week after surgery I weighed 239, but the scale has not moved an ounce since last Friday. I am finding it difficult to get my Protein and fluids in, so that may be the problem. I really don't remember hearing about these stalls before surgery.
rass21 8 Posted December 11, 2012 I am getting between 50 and 70 grams of Protein every day. I am staying under 600 calories and 40 grams of carbs. So I'm not sure what the problem is. It's very frustrating!
pen 33 Posted December 11, 2012 Hi! I understand your frustrations! I am 6 weeks out. Went to my 6 week check up today. At their office I've lost 20lbs since surgery. I keep forgetting to weigh at home with clothes and shoes, 4lbs difference. My doctor seemed pleased. I'm frustrated! I have been getting about 70gr Protein. He told me eat 5-6 times a day, and get 80gr Protein. My instructions had 3 times and 2 Snacks. He wants me to sort of make them all equal. Hopefully that will work better. I do tend to lose about 6lbs at once and then none for a couple of weeks. We didn't gain over weight and can't expect to lose like that. Good luck losers!!!=) Sent from my iPad using VST
