I Am Soo Freaking Scared to Do This!

Recommended Posts

I was approved today for Jan 9th... What are bariatric body bags anyway? Does anyone know?

I'm very excited and a little nervous but at 52 yrs old I have decided I don't want to live like this. It is worth the fear and if I don't make it I just don't but I have a chance at a life I could never achieve. I can walk, run whatever after the surgery and I am so miserable now that I am excited for a new life.

Have you ever had any surgery under general anesthesia at all??? I had a kidney stone removed under general 2 years ago and I was TERRIFIED!!!! They had to give me a Xanax to calm down. I threatened to leave against orders and everything. I was really being a horse's butt! But, when I was scheduled for my sleeve, I wasn't nervous or scared at all. I never had fear at all over this surgery and it is a big one!!! I was surprisingly calm. I realized I was scared of the unknown from anesthesia. Will it hurt? Will I really not feel anything when I'm under? Will I wake up? Will I remember anything? Once I had experienced it with my stone removal, it was a piece of cake. If you haven't had surgery before, then I totally understand. If you have had surgery, then just keep reminding yourself who you are doing this for and why!

Thanks Mezanne, you're right - it'll help to just keep reminding myself of all the reasons why I pursued surgery in the first place. There are a lot of 'em! I've had surgery once before, so thankfully I kind of know what to expect out of that part. For me, I think I'm more scared of the "after surgery and beyond" part. I mean, there's no going back once it's done! I'm hoping the benefits will outweigh the sacrifices...and more than anything, I hope my body reacts well to the sleeve and doesn't cause any lifelong woes or random horror stories. So far in my lifetime, I've made a few different doctors say to me: "hmm...I've never seen anything like this before." Greeaat. I seem to attract medical weirdness....and it better not happen with my sleeve!! lol

A body bag is used in the hospital after someone passes away. A bariatric body bag would be large enough for an overweight person.

...And on a lighter note: eventually none of us will require a bariatric body bag when the time comes! (Umm...I 'think' that's on a lighter note anyways.) Heh Heh :P

I'll be honest (although,I'm a lot more scared this time than with my two band surgeries). Umm, well, I also was very pessimistic about not being able to eat like a pig if I did the surgery. It was a mind game for sure. Get past that and you'll eventually realize the surgery may be safer for you than living obese

The actual surgery is scary no matter what though.. It's just not an easy thing to be calm about.

I was nervous too!! And I work in an operating room' date=' so I know the drill!! But I lost 50 lbs preop, and another 20 Postop for a total of 70!!! Best thing I ever did! food and I had this long term relationship that just wasn't working for me anymore! We had to break up!!! I got game, now!!![/quote']

That's a good way of thinking of it.

I had my surgery 6 months ago and I remember waiting in pre-op and being so scared that I felt sick, I'm so glad I went thru with it cause as of today I'm down 100 lbs! I can't explain to you just how much this surgery has changed my life, the best thing is I'm no longer hungry all the time and I don't dream about food all day, thank you Lord!

I vomited all the way to the hospital out of fear and nervousness. But now that surgery is over, I think that I will not be as nervous if I have surgery in the future. The gastric bypass was the first surgery under general anesthesia. It was the fear of the unknown. I'm sure that I will be a bit nervous for future surgeries, but much less so compared to the first. It helped me to be able to tell my surgeon and the preop nurse and I was nervous and scared. And it helped me immensely when they both said that fear and nervousness are completely normal. They gave me extra Versed before the procedure (I requested it specifically). And that truly helped.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
