Depo shot after the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Depo shot me up about 50 pounds when I took it as well. I never would have but I went with a friend who didn't want to do it alone. Hurts and weight gain is CRAZY!

DONT DO IT!!!!! It's impossible to lose weight on it (before surgery experience). And I was so moody plus absolutely no sex drive. I have the paragard IUD that has no hormones and it can last up to 10 yrs.

Nexplanon is what you may want and need...it is an arm inplant...so much better than the mirena since mirena has had so many law suit problems....nexplanon is estrogen free so be sure with your doc...

I am on my second Mirena IUD. I gained 75lbs my first year on depo. I never lost the weight. The IUD hurt going in, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. It only lasted a few minutes. Then, I had cramps like a bad period for a few days. Then, I didn't have cramps or a heavy period again for five years until it was time to replace it.

I too have mirena and I would HIGHLY recommend it! I have to be honest and say that the discomfort of the insertion is ridiculous... But it's completely worth the pain. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping after it was inserted. What use to be full 7 day heavy periods are now pretty much non existent. I might have one day or so at the most. I've had mine in for a little over two years now.

I was on depo and loved it. I was on it for 4 years and had no weight gain with it. The weight gain is actually the individual's fault. It causes cravings and if you give in you will gain.

I lost the majority of my weight on it.

I never was moody or had spotting or had any problems at all.

I recently switched to the implanon for more convenience - it is the same hormones as depo but for 3 years.

Everyone is different and it may be worth it to check it out. I had terrible experiences with the mirena and have scarring that may make it impossible to conceive.

I have an appt. in the morning to get a depo shot but was wondering if it will cause weight gain or a stall? Does anyone have any experience with this? What kind would you recommend?

Thank you!

I agree everything don't work the same for others. However I feel that there is way too many women that actually suffer from the side effects from Depo.

My eating habits didn't change. I didn't even have cravings. Plus I got started right after my daughter was born so I was actually trying to lose my pregnancy weight by dieting and working out! But I kept gaining...then that's when my OB told me I should consider different methods. (He was actually against the shot in the first place) after I came off it I still couldn't lose all the weight and it took 5 years to become pregnant again after my last shot.

Too many people have had the same side effects to blame it on the individual eating. There has been many women that has never had weight issues till getting the shot. Just do a quick google search and look how many women experienced awful side effects besides just weight gain.

With all options out now compared to when Depo first came out I'd urge anybody to pass on Depo.

Don't do it I had my shot 30 days before my sleeve 12 weeks and I'm only down 27 lbs I think it had a lot to do with the shot.

Just a little information for anyone considering an IUD, I have never had one, and I am a little scared so that's why I am here reading. If your gynocologist deems it medically necessary you can have an IUD implanted while sedated in the operating room. That's how mine is being done and my insurance covers it she said most insurance companies will cover it. It took me two phone calls to get all my other drs on board with it and I am having it done in a few weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
