as many of you know i'm still pre-op, but depending on the post-op folks for good answers!

my question is about eating sweets post-op. i KNOW i'll be eating very structured for a while, and eventually get a more regular eating regimen. but...what about sweets? many have told me that i won't want them or can't tolerate them anymore.

my gram made a really special Polish cake for every family occasion. i still make it now that she's gone. mostly for Christmas, birthdays. that's about it. but i guess i'd like to think that eventually, i could still tolerate a little corner of it! not regularly, but once or twice a year, like 2 tablespoon piece of it????it's a cream-cheese, cool-whip, butterscotch pudding layered thing. nothing fancy, just really special because of the memories and the taste takes me back every time!

tell me what your experiences are with sweets.

oh, and pop too. i'm a regular cola ADDICT. i'm dealing with the actual emotional addiction, but does anybody indulge in a flat pop ever, or a slurpee type frozen drink???

please don't get me wrong. i'm committed, just wondering if my ENTIRE regimen will completely change FOREVER, or it there's a little room to enjoy once in a while...

You will be able to have a corner of your special treat, not to worry. The problem may be that after several months out, you will find that corner a little too easy to eat. The first couple of months after I was sleeved, I had no desire for sweets, but now at five months out my cravings are back and I have no issue tolerating them. That is scary to me. The sleeve is a powerful tool, but we still have to make conscious choices every day to eat the right things. And don't worry, I understand that you're talking about an occasional treat. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
