Running/walking progress by St Patricks day

Recommended Posts

living in Dallas i dont think i have to worry about cliffs or mountains. I wish i had some hills and mountains lol. A ditch is as big as of a cliff we have here lol

Im going to look into couch to 5k too

Same here. I was in Huntsville running this past weekend. When I say it was hilly, that's almost exaggerating. More like....wavy earth.

I know how you feel. We have lots of fine trails to run in my area' date=' but I'm nervous! I think being unbalanced and uncoordinated for so long took a toll on my confidence. I hope get up the nerve to try trail running at some point.[/quote']

I love Oregon and am so jealous of anyone who lives there.

That's really great to be running in the woods. Hiking is an activity that has always connected me with "the authentic life" no matter what is going on around us in this crazy world. I would love to also run on trails' date=' but am seriously hesitating because of getting injured and not being within reach of help. It is the roots and rocks that get me thinking about tripping and falling off a cliff, rolling down a mountain or just spraining my ankle. With that said, I think I will start running on a nice wooded path that is fairly clear of roots in a nearby park. It is about a mile round trip so would make a good run circling around 3-4 times. Thanks for being inspirational.[/quote']

We have a few different trails to choose from. The one we did last weekend was full of roots and rocks. My you really have to pay attention, especially in the Vibram finger shoes (I'm loving those things). But by paying such close attention to the trail, you forget about things like how tired you might be or how far you have to go. When I was young and played football I never thought about how far I had run or how much farther I had to run right in the middle of a game...same thing with trail running.

You are right.Maybe you can do like this:

1. Dancing is a fast and easy way to lose weight, as it can be very enjoyable. There are various types of dancing from different cultures, learning a few different types of dancing styles can make your exercise more interesting and fun.

2. Doing sit-ups are very effective in burning belly fat. Some of you might find this exercise a bit difficult but you can start off by doing half crunches and then progressing to full crunches.

3. Cardiovascular exercises (cardio): exercises that involve the large muscles such as the leg and shoulder muscles. Cardio helps to make your heart and lungs stronger. This exercise has lots of health benefits like lowering blood pressure and burning calories.

4. Mountain/Wall climbing/hiking are all good forms of exercises to lose weight easily and fast but in some instances, they can be very dangerous. You should be alert and fully prepared with the right tools and equipment required for this type of exercise.

5. Yoga is a traditional, physical and mental discipline exercise originated in India. It is one of the oldest forms of exercise still in existence. Now it has become popular as a kind of low-impact physical exercise and is also used for therapeutic purposes as an addition to western medicine.

I am in -

I will admit, exercising is my biggest issue. By St Patrick's day I would like to be walking for 45 minutes at least 4 times a week.

Right now I have only made changes in my daily habits and I have really stuck to them - I take the stairs at work. At first I used the "one flight rule" - that means as long as it was only one flight I would use the stairs, now (3 months post op), I almost always just take stairs. Before surgery I was out of breath doing one flight - now it takes at least 3 flights for me to get winded, but I am doing it.

Other than this - I have gotten in the habit of getting up from my desk at least once an hour to walk around.

I will keep you all posted on my progress.

I finally retired my New Balance running shoes of the last 5 years. They have done 1000s of miles of walking, running and every day use. Additionally, they are the last of my remaining clothing articles to be moved out of my house after losing weight. Yay!

I found a local running store called "Run26" that specializes in analyzing a person's running and walking patterns to find them the perfect shoe. If I was going to spend 100+ on a running shoe, I wanted to make a very informed decision about it. The sales person analyzed my walking and running gait on an n store track, paying attention to my running form from both the front and back while jogging. He gave me an option of 3 running shoes to try and I ended up purchasing a Nike running shoe for 100. It is light as a feather and fits my foot really well.

I also found out that I am no longer a wide shoe fit and can buy any normal size 10.5 shoe. This is a relief to have more options available. We also talked a lot about running technique and goals. Finally, we talked about gels to eat while running long distances. he told me that gels are really only useful for marathons or other long distances. he said increasing distance is really just about endurance and as legs get stronger, the milage will increase. I felt like he really was giving me an expert opinion.

The store also sponsors 3 runs a weeks for people of all abilities. This is exciting to get out there and run with a group and also from new friendships. I am also going t look into meetup groups for running (already part of a northwest running group).

Today is my first day to try running with the new shoes on my treadmill. Hoping that these shoes will make a big difference for running 45+ minutes.

On a second note, I also ordered a new Bluetooth headset and transmitter for running with my ipod (a generation 2 classic that s old, but still works well). They are desperately needed because the wires kept getting in the way of my swinging arms and distracting my focus. Excited about them arriving in a couple days!

I just got a pair of merrel trail gloves. Love them. Talk about light. I mostly run in the Vibrams but some of the trails we run are too tough for me in vibrams. The trail gloves are a half step up in terms of cushioning, plus they look less dorky.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
