I'm 24 years old ,weight 280 lb I have been over weight since I turned 12. I constantly gain and lose weight 50-70lb. The highest I've ever weighed was 300 lb. I have hypothyroidism that wasnt diagnosed till i was 23. Today is my first day on full liquid pre-op diet! I am required to be on it for 10 days. My surgery is DEC-20-12. I'm getting my surgery done with Dr.Guillermo Alvarez in Pedras Negras Mexico. I'm self pay and the amount is 8700. I will be at the hospital for 2 days and hotel for another two. I'm very excited to finally get my surgery, I've been talking about it for 5 years!

Congrats and wishing you the best on this journey! It has been 3 months for me so far no frets only wish I would have done it sooner. It's not easy but if you are dedicated to the process and follow the plan you will do great!

I am scheduled for a vsg on 12-21-2012 with dr Alvarez. My nerves are about to get the best of me. During al this process I hurt my Back and see a neurologist Monday 17th. I'm afraid I may have to cancel my appt. I have a herniated disc at my L5. I will be stuck between which surgery fo I have first. Any thoughts? If I am able to keep my appt I will probably see you walking in the halls. I wish you a great surgery and speedy recovery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
